Chapter of:
The Pancretan Association of America
Greater San Antonio (GSA)
Our chapter was established on April 2000 here at Greater San Antonio. We are only a few Cretans here with our families and a few Filo-Cretan friends that have the desire to uphold our traditions and customs and keep our culture alive along with our strong faith.
We are proud that the Greek nation has given the lights of civilization to the world, however we the Cretans of (GSA) believe that we must continue and keep up on the footsteps of our forefathers. We cannot exist simply by being proud of what has happened in the past and what has been accomplished by our ancestors alone.
We must actively continue the hard labor of our fathers if we want to exist as a Greek nation, or Greek Americans here in the United States. The way we can accomplish this goal is by constantly striving to educate our children and our selves. Keeping our history alive and honor those who gave their lives unselfishly so today we can enjoy our freedom, keeping up our language, our traditions, and our strong faith in God.
Since the first day of the establishment of our chapter we have been very active with various projects and activities. We recently participated in Saint Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church 40th annual Fun-steval.
For the first time in the Fun-steval's history we created a replica of the Cretan house and introduced the Cretan tradition, Cretan wine and a display of of various artifacts of our beloved Crete. A scenic video of Crete and traditional dances were shown on our big screen television in the founders hall of our church. The children of our community dressed in authentic Cretan costumes performed traditional dances of Crete.
As the president of the ARIADNE Chapter of the Pancretan Association of America I am very proud of our accomplishment in such a limited time with minimum funds available. I would like to share some of the pictures that were taken at the 40th annual fun-steval here in Greater San Antonio at Saint Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church.
