GRAPHICS DEFINITIONS #1

A graphics image is made up of horizontal lines containing tiny dots called pixels.

The word ‘pixel’ comes from two words

                                    Picture            PIX

                                    Elements        EL

A pixel is the smallest controllable display element on the screen.

Resolution is the number and size of the display pixels. It is expressed as

Number of horizontal pixels x Number of vertical pixel lines = total pixels

For example,

Low resolution

                                                320 x 200 = 64 000

This results in a chunky picture

High resolution

                                                1024 x 768 = 786 432

                                                                                    More detail
