Network operations
Mail servers look after
mailboxes, store messages, maintain lists, translate mail address to Internet Protocol
(IP) address and maintain group addresses.
File servers need to provide
quick access to files, ensure network security, have a large storage capacity
and be reliable.
Printer servers direct printing
output to one or more printers. Software which handles print jobs on a network
is called a spooler. It acts like a buffer to collect the printed output and
store it as files, to direct the print jobs to the correct printers, and to
manage the jobs (delete or prioritise jobs in the print queue).
