3.7 System Box
The system box
consists of three main internal components: the main board, the power supply
and the cooling fan.
1. The mainboard or motherboard
is a flat printed circuit board covered with electrical components. the CPU,
ROM and RAM are on this board. A bus (pathway) links input, output, storage,
process and control devices by wires and connectors.
2. The power supply unit
transforms the 240Vac to a lower voltage similar to a battery. There is a
significant magnetic field around power supplies and magnetic disks should not
be stored near the system box.
3. The cooling fan assists in
ventilation and filters keep the dust out. Big computer systems need cooling
fluid instead of air.
