| The "face" on Mars from http://www.seds.org/~spider/spider/Mars/marsface.html On Mars, the "face" was found in the Cydonia region. It is located in an area relatively crater free. It was dicovered in July 1976 while searching for a landing site for the Viking 2 Lander. Some people thought it was just a natural geological structure, others claimed it was artificial and done by NASA and others claimed that it was evidence of ancient intelligent life on other worlds! |
The Crescent Craters won a Space Day contest where students from all over the world worked on a space project and the best-developed plan won! The winners were trained as astronauts to accompany real astronauts to the moon. There were seven of us going on this mission. Audrey was most interested in writing, so she kept our journal. Emma and Lizzys interests were in the geology. Taylor and Kelsey really wanted to explore a new area and be the first to do or find something unique. Madeleine, who had an interest in astronomy and history hoped they would find something special. Jacob, the only boy on the team, was interested in space travel and couldnt wait to be able to jump like Michael Jordan! The experienced astronauts with them were glad to just serve as guides. They had all been to the moon before and enjoyed the enthusiasm and hard work. The day finally arrived and the trip to the moon was completely successful. After unpacking at the base camp biosphere and resting, we set out to explore the moon. Suddenly, Audrey said, Whats that sticking out from the surface of the moon? It looks really weird. Lizzy stated, Lets go check it out. Following Jacob and carefully bouncing to the spot, we noticed it was a lot like a face. It looks just like the face found on Mars! Taylor yelled. We decided to dig up around the face after we took lots of photographs. Audrey was busy recording in her tape recorder notes she would use for her journal of the mission. We immediately sent the photographs back to Earth. Wouldnt they be surprised! We started digging around the face, and as we did, we uncovered and discovered some very cool moon rocks. Emma and Lizzy put them in a bag to analyze later. When we got deep enough, we started to dig under the face. Those are some strange and unidentified bones. Jacob said I estimated about 20 bones in all, said Emma with enthusiasm. She had used a space tool to measure all the bones. Many years ago, in July 1976, the Viking Orbiter first photographed the Face on Mars when they were looking for a landing site for the Viking 2 lander. said Kelsey. But maybe, Kelsey started again, based upon the low-resolution Viking images (which was the best the Viking spacecraft could do), several people claimed that the Face was artificial and not a geological structure. But then, they also put forth the proposition that other features in the area proved that an intelligent civilization once lived Mars and created the formations. Madeleine added. This was a big argument. We all agreed. We found out that the face on Mars was just rocks with sand all over them. For many years since that find, it was recorded as just a geologic feature. All of us were wondering the same thing at that point. Two is not a coincidence! How could there be the same face on two bodies in the solar system exactly alike? Is it just a rock formation? Are we alone? |
