Old River Diva Home Page
I am Colleen Fontenot, Incumbent City Council Woman, Position 2 and I am asking for your vote on May 9th, Election Day.

The Historical Aspect of Old River-Winfree is immense. Old River itself is how trade in the mid to late 1800 was brought in and out of the area so I wanted this history remembered by starting the Old River-Winfree Founders Day.

The First Annual Old River-Winfree Founders Day was to occur on October 18th, but Hurricane Ike got in the way. We are now having it on July 24 and 25, 2009. A kick-off dance will be on July 18th.

With the help of Angela Motz and Linda Murphy, we were able to gather Businesses, Elected Officials, and Citizens that believe in Old River-Winfree to Sponsor every event and every T-Shirt that will be sold.   Do you realize that the town of Old River-Winfree has its first T-Shirt ever?

MY PLATFORM

Continue working to make the RIVER PROJECT a reality.  This includes a Boat Ramp, rentals of canoes and kayaks for family enjoyment of our beautiful, scenic RIVER.  This would increase revenue for businesses, make Old River-Winfree a destination point for vacationers, and up the value of your home and property.

Continue working with Texas Department of Transportation to get two miles of roadway on FM 1409 from FM 565 to Old River Baptist to clean and maintain under ADOPT A ROAD.  Plant crepe myrtle, etc so that when you turn from FM 565 to FM 1409 and head down the hill toward THE RIVER, you will see a scenic and pleasing Old River-Winfree.  Most of this will be done by donations in honor of a loved one and plants provided by Precision Lawn Care at a reduced rate.  The City and Citizens will maintain this beauty.

Continue working to clean up abandon properties in Woodland Acres.  These are driving down the value of homeowner's properties.

Work on a better water/sewage system and initiate a trash pickup for Old River-Winfree residents.

Continue to fight against drugs and underage drinking in our town.  Fight to make Old River-Winfree a family oriented town for you, your children, and your grandchildren.   A community where  you can ride bicycles with your kids without fear of being run over.

Continue to fight against City Property Taxes.

If you vote for me, I promise to continue the endeavor to make Old River-Winfree a wonderful, historic place to live and work!

ORW City Councilwoman Blog
Some of the Things I do as your City Councilwoman in dealing with elected officials

I have a working relationship with our County Commissioner, Gary Nelson and talk to him on many occasions for Old River-Winfree.

I attend the Commissioner's Court in Anahuac as many times as necessary to make the Court aware of the needs of Old River-Winfree.

I work with the Sheriff's Office and Sheriff Joe LaRive regarding the safety and concerns of the citizens of Old River-Winfree.

When necessary, I communicate with Judge Sylvia about problems or concerns Old River-Winfree might be having.

I have a working relationship with the Texas Department of Transportation regarding the roads and easements running through Old River-Winfree.

I talk with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission regarding Dillon's Liquor Store and the problems Old River-Winfree is having with them selling to underage children and the lights.

Of the many items that I submit monthly to the Council, I am most proud of a simple thing such as street lights.  It took two presentations, but finally all Council Members agreed to 4 City Lights on Blackberry Drive in Woodland Acres that was having an increase of traffic walking over from Indian Ridge creating mischief.

I am here for the concerns of all citizens, not just a select group.  You know why?  I am not a member of any select group.  I don't have any AGENDA except to make Old River-Winfree a better place to live! and work
