My first experience snowboarding began towards the end of the 1998-1999 winter season. I was lucky enough to have a brother that has the same dimensions as me with all the gear/equipment for snowboarding. I fell... a lot! But it was a fun experience nonetheless. Mind you, I only went twice that season. And both times were equally painful. ;-) By the end of my second time, however, I could tackle the bunny slopes no problem (haha I know that isn't saying much...)!
I would say that the 1999-2000 was my first *real* snowboarding season. Although it was a very sucky winter (for snowfall) in Southern California, I still made it out 4-5 times. The first outting of the season, thinking that I'd be falling on my arse the whole time, completely surprised me. It finally clicked! I went on the intermediate slopes without too much of a problem (yeah, yeah, I still fell...). After that, the next big thing I did was jumping my first table top. That was fun for a bit, since I actually made it quite a few times. But then disaster struck. I launched off while I was leaning back (a big no-no), became inverted, and landed smack on my head/shoulder. I got up, and hit the second table top and made it. How ironic. =) I was fine, though, except for what I'd say was a mild concussion after. Which is a lot better than my friend who seems to dislocate his shoulder every time we ride. So, I'm staying over my board the next time I try that. =) I'm still trying to get my transition from heel-toe (and vice versa) faster... Well, I'll just practice more next season. =)
I spent half of that season using a shop board my friend would loan me. I finally decided to
get all of the equipment, and that is what you see listed below. So, who's coming up to ride
with me *if* I move up to Seattle, WA? =)
