2001: A Space Odyssey is by far my favorite Kubrick film. It is truely a modern film masterpiece. This is Kubrick at his best. His cinematography is flawless, never before had I seen such beautiful images. It is remarkable to think that Kubrick showed us the surface of the moon almost a full year before real astronauts ever landed there

Released in 1968, it recieved mixed reviews. During its premire, many stormed out of the theater disgusted. Those who stayed knew that they had witnessed something powerful. Many describe this film as long and slow, I think that they are missing the point. This film is a shining example of Kubrick amazing vision, as he attempts to detail man's existence and evolution in 148 minutes. A truly great film does what many other films cannot: it stays with you after you leave the theater, it makes you think. By that definition alone, this is one of the greatest films ever made
