Arm in Arm I strugled with the other boys massive arm to get it down to
the table. The
other boy was twice my size and
I was pethetic compared to him, not saying that I was a
wimp or anything he was just large
and in one swift movement my arm was flat to the
table.
“Hah” the guy said as he
slowly opened his hand to free my sore hand.
I shook it off and said,
“You just got lucky, and
besides I have been working all day” I said in a joking way
knowing that he beat me fair and
square.
I was new to the Weyr and was constantly
trying to fit in, between the odd jobs my
parents made me do and classes
I had little time to make friends so on the candle marks I
didn’t have class I would hang
around groups of people my age.
“So Raynon, do you want to
come with me and watch the Weyrlings attempt to fly?” the
massive guy said. I let out a chuckle
and was about to say yes when my brown flit Crome
flew towards my head. Crome
had always had a bad habbit of flying at people and
expecting them to move. I
tried to duck out of the way but I was to late and had to
helped him out of my sandy blonde
hair that was down to my eyebrows. He ajusted
himself to where he was perched
high on my shoulder, I felt a little embarrised, but was
reasured by my friend’s laughter.
“So you want to come?” he
asked agian, I looked up at my firelizard and back to him,
“Can he come to?” I asked
a little annoyed he had to show up. Don’t get me wrong, I
loved my firelizard, I was so happy
when I impressed him, he just turned out a little on the
dumb side, so I thought.
“Sure, the more the marrier,”
he said a little humored.
We walked down to the fields
just in time to see the first Weyrling take off. I had seen
many dragons before but always
at a further distance, and I was in complete awe at the
sight of the magnifacent creatures
taking off and flying through the sky. My friend nottice
my open jaw and made sure
to comment on it, but it slipped through one ear and out the
other. I loved dragons, my mother
use to aways tell me stories about them. How much I
earned to be on one of those Weyrlings
and to be soring high up in the sky.
It soon grew dark and the
weyrlings had begun to land,
“Gosh it sure did turn dark
all of a sudden,” my friend said looking up at the sky, I looked
up a the sky, it looked as though
a storm was coming. The sky was a reddish dark purple
and no stars were visible. There
was a light breeze and it was slowly picking up,
“We better start heading
back,” I said, we had walked a good 30 minutes to get here and
I didn’t feel like getting caught
in a storm.
We had only walked 5 minutes
when all of a sudden my brown firelizard began to spasm
out, he was screeching and cutting
loops around my head. “Calm down, whats wrong,
Crome...,” I glanced over to my
friend, a stong gust of when had picked up and I looked
slightly up to see silver strands
falling from the sky, “ WATCH OUT!” I said junping and
pushing my friend out of the way
of a falling strand. My firelizard was confused and was
darting around me, go get help
Crome. He new what I meant, I just wasn’t sure if he knew
what to do.
“WHATS going on??” my friend
said dumfoundly, he obviously had never been in thread
fall, I couldn’t excaclty
say I had been to.
“Thread, c’mon we have to
get back,” I said helping my friend up to his feet. We begun
to run, my friend being so massive
coudn’t run as fast and was extremely clumsy. He
tripped over a root and fell to
his face. I stopped and turned, I wasn’t paying attention to
my surroundings, “RAYNON, WATCH
OUT,” I looked up to see a strand falling right
towards me, I tried to dogde it
but tripped and fell to the ground, it was to late, the silver
strand slithered down on my leg
in a spiral like motion, I let out a pitchfull hollor of pain.
I twisted over on my back so it
woundn’t burn completely through, it fell to the ground
and luckily disentigrated. “ OH
MY GOSH,” I gasped at the pain, I stuck my hand down
to put preshure on it to take away
some pain, it was bleeding now at great ammounts. “
What are we going to do Raynon?”
my friend muttered, fear in his voice. He was
petriefied, I took in the pain
and stood up, Iwasn’t going to die like this and I knew that I
was going to be brave and strong,
for fear was not something to have right now. “Come
on, stand up.” I ordered my friend,
“ But I’m scared.” he muttered, this proved that size
doesn’t matter when it came to
fear. “Do you want to die out here?” he gave a small shake
of the head, “ well you are if
you don’t get up and come on!” I said, looking him straight
in the eye. I limped over to him
and helped him to his feet. We didn’t walk but 10 steps
when we looked up to see a triangle
of dragons come from between. A little Brown
firelizard leading the way.
“Crome, he did it, he found them,
he brought help!” I said, in amazement.
The dragons and riders began
to flame the thread, me and my friend waved are hands,
hoping that one of the riders would
see us. Crome notticed us down below and pointed it
out to a blue dragon and his rider.
"Look down there, we should
get them, they could die out here." the
blue dragon
said to his rider.
"Yea, it is a good ways back to
the Weyr." with that the blue dragon spiraled down to
the ground.
"There coming down!" I announced
to his friend.
"Were saved!" My friend said.
The dragon landed smooth and graceful,
his rider dismonted and introduced himself,
"I am
Dark
