Okay, people have been warning me about putting too much info on the net but I figure why not?  After all, you people deserve to know a little about me and my messed up life right?  And its not like I'm disclosing my address or my phone number or anything.  And I have no shame.  So for the many travelers to the Isles, here is a little bit about the creator of this world, and some pictures.

Short Bio

In case you don't know my name is Melissa Ho.  My Japanese name is Akemi (I'm actually 3/4 Japanese and 1/4 Chinese in case you're wondering).  I'm also known as "Butterfly girl" or "Unicorn girl."  I'm a 1999 graduate of Mid-Pacific Institute, a private  school right next to the University of Hawaii in Manoa.  I am currently attending the University of California at Davis as a Sophmore.  I think I'm going to be either a Zoology or Biotech major with a minor in English or Computer Science.  I haven't' decided.   I live in Aiea, Hawaii (Oahu, the main island).  During the Summer I work at Kapalama Pet Hospital.  I have a 6 year old Cairn Terrier who has got to be the dumbest but loveable thing alive.  I also have a 13-year old brother who's a total pain in the neck.  And if you haven't guessed, I'm a unicorn fanatic.  I collect anything remotely related to unicorns or pegasi (plural for pegasus, my own word).  Dragons are the newest phase I'm in.  Just the pretty or cute ones mind you.  For an idea of HOW bad I am, check out my Davis and Hawaii Unicorn collections.

Me and my Unicorns

Okay, well, you've obviously guessed my unicorn fetish huh?  Well, I've been in love with unicorns for almost two decades.  That's right, I got my first unicorn music box when I was about two or three.  I've been collecting them ever since.  I guess that has to do with the fact that I was never into Barbie dolls or anything.  I never owned a single doll.  As you might imagine though, I was really into My Little Ponies (surprise, surprise).  I must have almost the entire set at 60 ponies, the Paradise Estate, castle, nursery, sweet shop, . . .  never mind.  Since coming to college, I've nearly doubled my collection of unicorns.  Walking into my room (both in Davis and Hawaii) is like walking into a unicorn shrine.

RPGs and Anime

My other fanatical area is RPGs and Anime.  I've been into RPGs since Final Fantasy III came out for the SNES.  After that, well, now I own, FF2, FF3, Secret  of Mana, Crono Trigger, Lufia II, Breath of Fire, Breath of Fire 2 for the SNES.  Not to mention I got the Playstation just because Squaresoft (maker of the FF series) was moving to Sony.  So now I own Wild Arms, Suikoden, Suikoden II, Lunar SSSC (my favorite!), FF7, FF8, Breath of Fire III, Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy Anthology, Tactics Orge, Thousand Arms, Legend of Mana (which sucks by the way), Saga Frontier, Star Ocean, and Grandia for the Playstation (Soon to add Crono Cross and Lufia III when they come out --  And I want to get Sage Frontier II and Wild Arms II).  Whew!  Quite a list and I still have to play some of them!  Now Anime is more recent.  About a year.  I first saw Final Fantasy V on anime and after that I got hooked on the Evangelion Series.  Then came Slayers (the movie), Ruin Explorers, Fire Emblem (which has good animation but leaves me hanging!) Wrath of the Ninja, Samurai Showdown, Pokemon, Tenchi (on a friend's tape), Dragonball Z (on TV and stupid but oddly entertaining), Record of Lodoss War (awesome series!), and now Ronin Warriors.  (Anime is expensive which is why I don't have many of them.  I'm trying to get Maps and the Magic Knights of Rayearth but I'm a little broke right now)  Ronin Warriors is the first Anime I'm really obsessed over.  Certainly the graphics aren't the greatest and the dialogue is something to be desired with Sailor Moon (a show I detest, or at least think is realy stupid) like elements.  Maybe it's because they're cute.  Oh whatever.  Anyway, I'm actually motivated enough to write about them and I'm enjoying it too!  (I've got 606 Ronin pics collected over the internet sitting on my computer -- oh my!, and I'm collecting a book of all my favorite Ronin fan fics.  So far I have 4 mini-binders full)  I also have the first 18 episodes of Gundam Wing accidentally recorded.  I'm scared to watch it cause I think I'm going to be hooked on that too.  And the five pilots are supposed to be cute too . . .

Me as a Writer

I love creative writing.  I'm not bad at it either, considering the first formal creative writing class I took was in college.  I just recently found one of my old stories from HS Freshman year and, oh my, but my writing hasn't really changed.  I have to admit I was a pretty good writer back then.  But if my story skills haven't changed since then . . . oh well.  As far as style goes, I'm more of  a plot driven person, but I try to get as much character development in as possible.  That way, the reader can empathize with the characters and is therefore more likely to like the story.  I also try to do research before I write a story so it's "true to form."  I used to read a lot (past tense, since discovering the internet and mp3s where do you suppose I now spend my time?) so I know most of the Fantasy themes and how to make a story original and believable.  I hate reading stories with spelling, grammar, and typo errors so all my stories are checked and double checked for those things.  I'm actually thinking of minoring in creative writing.

The Graphics

All the graphics in the "working" pages (ie titles, bars, etc) were made on Corel Draw 9, Adobe 5.5, and Bryce 4.0.  I use Corel Trace and Corel Photoshop as well.  HTML coding was made with Microsoft Frontpage 2000 (I know, the cheating way.  I only know basic HTML so I have to learn more of it sometime . . .)  The 3-D scenery pictures were made on Vista Pro 4 and Bryce 4.0.  I also use Adobe Premier to make video slideshows, which I might post if I can make some good enough clips (imagine, anime music videos, maybe even a Ronin one . . .).
