| According to Irish tradition, selkies are seals that can shed their skins and take human form. One well-known story is of a fisherman who falls in love with a selkie and steals her sealskin one day, to keep her from returning to the ocean. They are married and she has several children, but one day her child finds the sealskin in a chest and brings it to her mother, wanting to know what it is. The selkie grabs the skin and runs to the beach, she slips into her skin and swims off in the waves, never to return again in human form. |

| Write a story about the selkie's daughter, years later. What does she remember of her mother, now that she's grown up? Does she believe the story? Is it true? What does she think of when she looks out at the sea? | |||||||
