June Saints:
Saint Catherine of Alexandria, Raphael
2nd -- Erasmus, or Elmo (circa 303). Syrian bishop who is said to have been put to death by having his intestines wound out of his body on a windlass. It may be the resemblence of a windlass to a capstan which led to his becoming the patron saint of sailors. St. Elmo's fire, the electrical discharge sometimes seen at the masthead of a ship, is named for him, and was seen as a sign of his protection.

22nd -- Alban (circa 209). A Romano-Briton who gave shelter to a Christian fleeing Diocletian's persecution. He was arrested and put to death amidst "supernatural happenings."

28th -- Potamiaena (circa 202). An Alexandrian maiden who "repelled attempts on her chastity" and was sentenced to be burnt as a Christian. The officer conducting her execution, Basilides, treated her with kindness and she thanked him and told him that she would supplicate God on his behalf. Shortly afterwards Basilides was also arrested as a Christian. He was baptized in prsion and then beheaded.
