Old wine in a new bottle: Think of a famous piece of literature with which you are familiar. Summarize it in four or five sentences, paying particular attention to the plot. For example: Two young lovers die tragically because of their families� mutual hatred. (Romeo and Juliet)

Next, change a few of the key details. What if the lovers are elderly? Gay? What if, instead of rival families, they are rival corporations? Football teams? Come up with a number of ideas, the farther out from the original the better. Choose the ones that seem the most interesting to you and rewrite the story, perhaps even changing the ending.
