Our Other Pets
The story of Bigfoot, the Mini Lop.

We bought Bigfoot at a pet store as a female, he isn't.  Next, we found out Bigfoot had trouble breathing and his right eye leaked a milky white fluid.  This white fluid covered his right cheek and nose.  It was so hard I swear it could be marketed as concrete!  It got to the point that we had to shave the area around his eye to keep it from building up.  Bigfoot's health deteriorated rapidly.  We took him to regular vet and they tried to help him but he continued to get worse.  When Bigfoot was almost dead, we finally found
PennyRoyal Exotic Animal Clinic in Lexington, KY with Doctor's Zafarano and Walker.  They are the reason Bigfoot is alive and well today.  Bigfoot thanks and loves them both, and so do we!  PennyRoyal is not like other clinics; they are dedicated exotic specialists, which means they have additional knowledge of birds, reptiles, lagomorphs (rabbits), ferrets, as well as dogs, cats, etc.  PennyRoyal diagnosed Bigfoot correctly, got him back on his feet, and continues to help us with his lifelong health problem.  He was too ill to neuter until he got well and when he did, PennyRoyal neutered him for us.  When your pet becomes ill,  you consider your options, and ask yourself  "do you want a pet/bunny or do you want THIS pet/bunny?"  That is what it really is, do you just want a pet, or do you want the pet you have come to love and who depends on you, to survive?  Is the pet worth it?  Weigh the options, for us,  if Big Foot has a good quality of life, he is worth the time, energy, and money.  We admire Big Foot, he has gone through alot and he never moves a muscle, bites, or tries to get away during his treatments.  It's like he understands it is for his own good.  His eye must be numbed, then flushed under pressure with Saline, until it  comes out his nose.  Afterwards, we always hold him for about an hour and give him a small treat.

Once Big Foot got back on his feet, he gained some some weight!  He weighs 7 pounds now!  Bigfoot  is our store mascot.  He greets the customers in our tile store, Creative Tile & Stone, in Richmond, KY,  and of course, he loves tile.  Most people don't realize rabbits can be litter trained but they can!  Bigfoot uses a litter box which keeps the store safe from "little droppings."  Bigfoot is very choosy, he selects which customers are allowed to pet him  and which customers can watch him run and hide.  When he's not hopping around the store, he is eating a lot of Timothy Grass from Pine Hill Farms, who carries an excellent line of high quality hay and hay products at very reasonable prices.  We were so impressed with their products, we bought it for our other 17 rabbits then became a distributor for them!  The timothy or alfalfa grass comes in mini-bales that are so handy and convenient.  It cuts down on the mess, time it takes to feed, and all our bunnies just love it.  The hay is very comparable to other high quality hay products.
The story of Tzeitel, our female ferret.   We purchased Tzeitel from a pet store 2 years ago, along with a 3 level cage with ramps. She was just a baby. Tzeitel has a curious nature and loves to explore, she just loves to get into everything and look around.  Tzeitel managed to somehow break her little arm while she was in her cage alone; we still don't know how she did it and she's not talking!  We took her to the vet and they set her arm and put it into a cast.  For 5 weeks she drug her arm around behind her, it barely slowed her down at all.  Tzeitel loves to play and she "chortles" (ferret giggles). We take her to the Tile Store and when she gets tired of playing, she climbs back up into her cage, curls up, and goes to sleep. Tzeitel pushes her golf ball across the tile like a solo soccer player!  She goes quite fast! She is also litter trained. One day, we left the top of the bunny cage in the Tile store open, Tzeitel pushed the bunny's travel cage on the floor over 9",  so she could climb up on top of it, then climb into a larger bunny cage with the bunnies!  The bunnies were not thrilled, they thumped at her but Tzeitel just wanted to meet them and see what they were doing.  Needless to say, we always close the top of the bunny cage from then on!  We have never had any family members eaten so far!.
