| The Creative Journal Workshops |
| The Creative Journal is an Expressive Arts method, in the form of writing and drawing exercises. The journal format documents the process of self-refection and discovery for each participant. The exercises are easy to follow ways of exploring the inner self using both dominant and non-dominant hands. In the use of both hands an amazing integration of right and left brain functioning occurs. It allows access to inner resources, which are often unrecognized. Dr. Lucia Capacchione Ph.D., ATR, created the Creative Journal Method. Dr. Capacchione is an Art Therapist and career counsellor as well as an educator and author of numerous books, including The Creative Journal: The Art fo Finding Yourself; The Power of Your Other Hand and her latest book Living With Feelings: The Art of Emotional Expression. She is a pioneer in creative methods of coundselling and education. She is an internationally recognized workshop leader and trainer of certified Creative Journal instructors. Dr. Capacchione created this method through a challenge of a life-threatening illness she suffered in the early seventies. She had kept a diary-type journal for years and as she was writing about how her illness was affecting her she found herself taking taking the pen out of her dominant hand and began writing and drawing with her non-dominant hand. She found that what came from writing with her non- dominant hand was somehow different then what she wrote with her dominant hand. It was often in the form of dialogues with herself. Through this experimental process she began to regain her health and applied this new tool to a variety of aspects of her work and her life. The "journal" aspect of this method relates to doing the exercises and recording thoughts and feelings over a period of time. This creates sequential body of information about us, by us, for us to learn from. It becomes and empowering process of creating an illustrated text on us. Some of the ways the Creative Journal can be helpfull are: - Doing career planning - Accessing creativity - Overcoming creative blocks - Connecting with body's natural healing abilities - Developing creative problem solving tools - Connecting with the spiritual self - Making dreams come true The Creative Journal Method is an easily learned, self empowering tool that can be used for any barrier to healthy, happy living. It can be learned in a variety of ways, i.e. through doing the exercises in the books on your own, working with the support of a group, through fun, non-threatening workshops or by working with a coach one on one. Workshops can be designed to the specific needs of a group. The next six week course in the Creative Journal will begin Monday, October 4- November 8, 2004 7-9 PM For information or to register call Carolyn Skelly at 905-875-2788 |
