| The Hall of Science Museum by Katie Blasl ' I don't think I'm going to like it' I thought as we pulled into the parking lot of The Hall of Science Museum. I thought it was going to be like statues and then a little billboard explaining about the statue. It probally took us an hour to drive to the city and it was freezing as we walked on the sidewalk that cold winter day on March 10, 2001. We walked into the giant building, me on one side of my mother, Courtney on the other. Our father had planned to come but deliveries were canceled because of the snow and had to be resceduled to this particular day. When we walked in, our LEAH group sat waiting for the other families to come. A giant ring towering over our heads went round slowly. It had a metal bar that came to the top to bottom, and on the bar were two metal rings with, which I guessed and do not know that it is correct, a screw that later fell and made the rings depart. Then the two rings spun to the bottom, then, five minutes later repeated. I want you to know one thing though, I think it explains it all, everything was a game. There was nothing like I though it would be, because everything was a game. If you go there, I guarantee you that you're going to have fun. That's all they want you to have, fun. My mother walked to pay so that we could go in. I went over to the doors leading to the museum and saw what I guessed were atoms ( and was right this time) on the botom floor. When we went down there I saw kids of all ages laughing, thinking, playing, and all of the things that showed that they were having a good time. The balls on the celing were atoms, and when I walked up to one of the activities I saw the same balls on the celing only these could fit in the palm of your hand! I went over to a computer beside it and saw that you were supposed to build your own atoms. The red, blue and black all had holes all around them. You were supposed to put this tan connector thing in the holes so that the other end could connect to some other piece. But the white one only had one hole and was much smaller then the others. I made the atoms to nicotine. My mom and Courtney started walking upstairs for the room I was working to build atoms in was big and round, and there was an uper ring all around it with games too. We went upstairs and the first thing I saw was a little booth with two sticks that had a string to attatch to it. I walked over and followed the directions. I was supposed to swing the stick back and foward really fast and look at the stick from the right. When I did so it said "Seeing the Light" and when I stopped again it was just a plain stick. I wondered, ' What does that have to ddo with science?' I walked down to what looked like controled something, and when I turned the knobs, I caught something out of the corner of my eye. Up ahead of me was a big screen with a blue flashing thing that went round and round. It had a dot in the middle and then, lines went all directions from it. You could control tthe light, speed, and how fast or slow the flashes went. I then wondered the same thing as before, ' What does that have to do with science?' " Katie, let's go to the upper level, maybe we'll just make it for the Living in Space ", my mother said as she took my hand and headed for the elevator. " All of this stuff will be here when we get back, they only have this now," she added. So we ran to the elevator and made it just on time. When we got there I was not so excited, just like when I was in the parking lot. But when we got there, it was filled with cool stuff, like globes of the nine planets and everything. We all sat down in what I call a spiny chair, a chair that has wheels and you can spin in, but instead of spinning, we went back and forward, back and forward. Then, a lady came and said, " Hello everyone. Are you having fun today?" Very little of us ( because there were little kids there and they didn't respond) said a not so satisfing 'Yeah' and she slumped and said, "I couldn't hear you." Then ( still the little kids not responding), still very little of us, said a much louder 'Yeah' and I guess she thought they said it too, because she just moved on to a different subject. She talked about the astronomers who live in the space station, and what they ate, how they go to the bathroom, and I got to volontere for the exercizing. When it was done, I wished it could of gone longer. The science museum had lots of other games that I can't fit in here. But I will tell you about some of the exciting ones. There is this room in the main level that you go in called Singing Shadows. You go in and if you dance to disco, there is loud speakers that will play disco music. Same thing about a ballerinist. It won't play Mozart, but it will play somthing sweet. Another game I liked was a game in the Lower Level, or the LL on the elevator. You had to pedal around on a bicicle that stayes in place, but not on the screen thats attached. You can pick a level and place to go and you're there, riding a bicicle. Turn by leaning sideways. One of the cool places is a beach with palm trees. Besides riding around there, you can enter a bicicle race. After our fun, we went to the gift shop and went back home. I had to say, we had alot of fun, and to the Science Museum, that's good. |
