Dayton Christian Center
Dayton, OH
2002
The Dayton Christian Center serves the families of South Dayton View. This is an urban area beset by economic depression, but full of a sense of community. The center severs as a social hub, offering affordable childcare, after school programs, and health screening services for the elderly. Many students find a welcoming smile, a healthy snack and a sense of purpose at the center which has served area residence for over 80 years.
The center was chosen as a "thank you" to the dedicated staff and indomitable spirit of hope and caring fostered within the center's walls. The hope is that this project will inspire others in the community to use their abilities to make someone else's day a little brighter.

The subjects were dictated by the core philosophy of the center- a tribute to innovative African American people: innovators, inventors, entrepreneurs, and scholars who paved the way for generations to come. Featured in this piece, among others, are references to Imhotep, Paul Lawrence Dunbar, Ms C.J. Walker, Washington Carver, and Josephine Baker.
