| What Is The ADA? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "[ADA is] the world's first comprehensive declaration of the equality of people with disabilities, and evidence of America's leadership internationally in the cause of human rights. With today's signing of the landmark Americans with Disabilities Act, every man, woman, and child with a disability can now pass through once closed doors, into a bright new era of equality, independence, and freedom." | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), passed in July 26, 1990, prohibits discrimination based on disability in employment, state and local government, public accomodations, comertial facilities, transportation, and telecommunications. Funding is provided by the Federal Government. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| IDEA, as a part of the Americans with Disabilities Act, provides for a free, appropriate education in the least restrictive environment. The IDEA segment specifically applies to students from birth to age 21 in schools. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
