Lorraine McGuigan

Still-Birth

Above my
hospital bed
a spider
is spinning
a new web
from angle
to angle
an endless
confinement
and now
your sheets
a white shroud
as I watch
a spider
weaving
the angles
of her world
in the space
of a corner.

Lorraine McGuigan began writing in 1988 when her six children no longer  demanded daily attention. Her stories and poems have been published in Australia and in the USA, including Ulitarra, Southerly, Black Bear Review and Cimarron Review. She is editor of the Monash University journal, Poetry Monash.
