Tom Lagasse

Making Granola

For a moment I think
this is how it must feel
to be a monk
awake before the world.
Moving about the house
my motions are compact, still.
Night drifts to dawn.
Roughly measured cups:
oats, sugar, seeds, nuts.
A quiet servitude that holds
the world together.

Tom Lagasse lives in Bristol, CT. He has had poems published in Silver Wings, Explorer and Feelings. He has also published a non-fiction piece about volunteering in an inner city Philadelphia homeless shelter in The Sun: A Magazine of Ideas and it was later reprinted by The Catholic Digest.
