Associated Board Of The Royal Schools Of Music

"The ABRSM acts as one international examining body in order to conduct local music examinations and thereby help to improve the standard of musical education. The Board offers examinations suitable for candidates at different stages of ability in stringed, woodwind, brass, percussion and keyboard instruments, singing, practical musicianship, instrumental and vocal ensembles, and theory. A simple Preparatory Test is provided for beginners in most instruments and in singing, and progress may then be followed in stages of gradually increasing difficulty from Grade 1 to Grade 8, which leads on to the examinations for the Advanced Certificate and the LRSM Diploma (LRSM - Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music).

Scholarships are provided by the Board for the benefit of candidates who display outstanding musical promise to enable them to study in Britain." (excerpt from the ABRSM booklet EXAMINATION REGULATIONS AND INFORMATIONS, Intenational Edition, 1999)

Preparing and taking grade exams of ABRSM is the right path toward AP Music Theory Exam preparation (for US College or University). Check: AP Music Theory

At my studio I am preparing student for music instrument exams specifically. To prepare for music theory exam I usually refer to another teacher. It takes additional time, dedication and resources.
