| Hi. Kerry looked up from her paperwork with a smile. Hello, Dr. Legaspi. Kim raised an eyebrow at Kerrys use of her title. She decided to play along. How are you this morning, Dr. Weaver. She made sure to add a little emphasis on the Dr. Weaver. Kerrys smile grew a little. I am fine Dr. Legaspi. And you, how are you this morning? Kerry said it a little nonchalantly, looking back down at her paperwork. I am well, thank you for asking. You paged for a psych consult, do you want to tell me about the patient? No. Kerry said, lowering her head to hide the smile that turned into a grin. Should I look at the board and take a wild guess which patient it is. I could go round all of them and see if I can guess which is crazy. Kerry looked up. Crazy. Are you allowed to call the weirdos that? Probably no more than youre allowed to call them weirdos. Both women laughed. Kerry closed the file she was working on. There, thats the last file. How about breakfast, Im starving. So, you called me down here under false pretence, taking me away from my patients who need me, taking me away from my paper work just because you are hungry? Yipp. OK then, just checking. Where do you want to go? Both women laughed again and headed towards the elevators. The doors opened. As Kerry left the elevator she grabbed Kims arm. Come with me. I should go get my jacket Kerry. Its cold outside and we dont have much time. I know youre finished but I still have a couple of hours. Kerry said nothing and continued to pull Kim towards her office. Kerry let Kims arm go and got the keys out of the her pocket. She opened the door and went in. Kim followed, Kerry closed the door and watched for Kims reaction. Kim stopped in her tracks when she saw Kerrys desk. Ohmygod. When did you do this? How did you do this? Kerry Kerry put her arms around Kims neck pulling her into a deep kiss. I came up an hour or so ago and got it set up. I knew we wouldnt have much time. Come sit, eat. I know you dont eat properly when youre on nights. Kim looked at the spread set out before. Kerry was unwrapping sandwiches, then unpacked a couple of bowls from her bag along with some cereals. Kim was just amazed at how much was there just for the two of them. Her eyes widened when Kerry produced a cooler from under her desk from which she pulled a carton of milk and juice. Youve thought of everything. Coffee or tea? Kerry asked pulling two thermal flasks from her bag. Mmm. Kerry said just realising Kim had said something. Kim walked around the desk. She took the flasks from Kerry and placed them on the desk. I have never been with anyone that has ever done anything like this for me. No one would ever think to take the time to prepare this and keep it in a cooler and flasks Its just breakfast Kim. Kerry said interrupting. She liked to do things for Kim, she wanted to make sure she was OK, eating enough when on nights. To Kerry it really was no big deal. Its more than just breakfast. Kerry, before you came to work you thought about me and how I would be at this time in the morning. Youve prepared some of my favourite things and have cereal and god Kerry, you are a wonderful woman. I am so lucky you found me. Kerry looked Kim in the eye. She looked serious. Kim was worried. The look unsettled her. Kim you found me. You helped me find me, the real me. The me I have denied myself to be. Happy, confident, gay. Kim without you I would still be hiding part of who I am not only from the world but myself too. I am happier than I have ever been. Both women embraced and kissed. Kim pulled back. Im glad I helped you and it doesnt matter who found who, the important thing is we are together and will be forever. I love you Kim. I love you too. Kim replied without hesitation. It was the first time either had said out loud. Kerry broke down. Kim followed and put her arms around Kerry. They hugged and cried. Pulling away they wiped their eyes and laughed. Who knew. Kerry said. Who knew what? Kim asked walking back around the table taking a seat ready to tuck in. That breakfast is such a romantic meal. How many dinners and late night suppers have we had, even a few midnight snacks and here we are confessing our love over cereal. Both women laughed. Well, Kerry weve never had a conventional relationship and Im fine with that and this is just another thing that makes our relationship different and special. I love you Dr. Legaspi. I think Ill stay in here until youve finished your shift, then we can go home together. If were to continue to have a "different and special" relationship then I think we should do everything to keep that up. And how does going home together do that? Weve done that a few times before, rather normal actually. Kim said pouring cereal into her bowl. But this time well have desert and not too many people have desert at breakfast. And what did you have in mind for desert? Kim asked suggestively. Me. Was all Kerry said. |
