As you type, if you make a mistake, you can hit the BACKSPACE key to delete a character to the left of the cursor. To delete a character to the right of the cursor, hit the DELETE key (located in the center section of the keyboard).

To insert a letter in a word click, in the appropriate place in the word and type the letter. It should insert into the word. If they letter does not just insert, but actually replaces the next letter, hit the Insert key (located in the center section of the keyboard. Clicking the Insert key changes the insert function from insert to replace. It is easy to accidentally hit the Insert key as you type.

As you type, you may see red or green wavy lines appear under your text.
Red lines mean that Word thinks you may have misspelled a word.
Green lines mean that Word thinks you have a grammatical error.
Neither of these lines will appear on the printed page of your document.

Here's how to respond to the red or green lines:
1. You can ignore them until you finish the document and then run spell check.
2. You can stop typing, right click in the middle of the word and select the correct spelling.
3. You can use the back arrow or backspace key to go back and correct the error.

Here's how to use these options:
Option 1 - Running spell check.
When you finish your document, either:

Any of these will take you to the Spelling and Grammar window. Two boxes will appear in this window. The top one shows you the suspected error. The bottom will show you the suggested correction. Notice that in the case of grammar errors, an explanation of the type of mistake appears above the box. On the right side of the box, you will see options. You can Ignore the "mistake" and leave it as is. (If you have used that word several times in the document, and want to keep it, click Ignore All.) You can click change to accept the suggested correction. If there are several suggestions listed in the second box, be sure the one you want is highlighted. You can tell it to Add the word to the dictionary so that, in the future, Word will not think it is misspelled. If no appropriate correction is suggested, click in the text in the top box, type your correction and then click Change.

Option 2 - Right Click in the word
Insert your cursor somewhere in the word. Right click. A list of suggested correct spellings will appear. If the desired word appears, left click on it and Word will correct your mistake.

Option 3 - Back space or back arrow and correct your mistake. Using the back arrow moves you back without erasing anything as you go. Using the backspace key erases as you move backward.
