> How Technology has changed our lives
Just the other day I had
gone to our local sabziwala to buy our daily quota of vegetables.
I was busy telling out my list when I heard the sound of a mobile
ringing.
As a note it must be mentioned
that the place I live is not some city .. but a small place called
Nemmara in Kerala and in this place finding someone with a mobile is not
a daily occurrence like in Bangalore and Delhi.
So I was keen to know from where this
sound was coming. Just imagine my surprise that the mobile was none
others but that of one of the workers in the sabziwala s
place.
This incident a common occurrence now in
all of our lives....... just shows how technology has changed our
lives.
"I will call you at home" and "I will write to you" has been replaced
with " I will call you up on your mobile" and " I will email
you".
I
am someone in favor of technology and I am delightfully surprised at how
technology has come to be so common part of our day to day
lives.
"Technology - blessing or curse"
This
has been a topic of discussion for a lot of debates and like they say in
that famous ad "the fight continues"
My this
articles is in no way against or in favor of technology.
Technology has helped us reach the skies when before the near by tree
would have been sufficient. An example would be before going to the moon
would have been a big thing. Now going and circling it 2-3 times and
staying there for a month or 2 would seem like a piece of cake. The
inside track is there is a huge waiting line in companies who sell
property in the moon. You know... "that mount on the moon is yours and
this mine"
But
when I hear news like that of Kalpana Chawla dying and lot of other
problems that have arisen due to technology I cant help but think... is
the risk worth it......
Some may say yes.... some say no.... some may say maybe... To tell the
truth there is no right answer.
Technology will remain a part of our lives whether we like it or not as
long as we have technology being developed as fast as a click of a
mouse.
"Technology is a necessary evil"
There
are times when technology is a blessing like sending urgent emails,
getting medical test results within the hour forecasting
weather.
But one
thing....... there is one element that should not be forgotten in this
hi tech world- and that is the human element. As long as people still
think in terms of love hate desire and friendship etc....... and not in
terms of bytes, hertz and GBs we are safe.
And so you
tech crazy people out there.... why don't you take a few minutes and
call up your mother, father, friend, anyone or write a letter the old
fashioned.
On this light
and happy note...... signing off
