| COMMENT by reader number 815 One must remember that ultimately, the student must be able to do the work in at most the same amount of time that the "average" student takes, or he/she will not be hired for the desired job, and, if hired, will not keep the job. "Time" is the reason I didn't get my pilot's license -- it's not that I can't do the math -- it's that I can't do it quickly enough to stay in the flight path I've filed. Navigation must be done, not only accurately, but rapidly, or someone may die. Imagine telling the Air Force that you really ought to be allowed to fly a jet even though you can't do the navigation as fast as necessary to keep from ploughing into the next mountain. I'm sure you see what I mean. ==================================== REPLY by Dr. Fischler If time is important then the student would not have mastered the objective. If we say that you must be able to type 60 words a minute, then time plays an important role in this particular objective. Usually this type of objective is related to a specific occupation. I am speaking of general abilities required to function in this society. |
