As you may have seen from the pictures on this page there are alot more difference's between the Inland Bearded, Black soiled and Mainland Bearded other than their names.
The most apparent difference is the skin patterns of each species. The Central Bearded Dragon has a parallel line of spots down its back, they also have very strong markings on there head which start from the back near the neck and shape around the eye. The eye lids are marked like a zebra with light and dark brown lines. They have a row of spikes on both sides of their body between the feet. Central's are also alot lighter than the Mainland and Black Soiled Dragon's, being a light Brown with shades of white and black. They have a white to brown beard which will change to a jet black colour if they are angry, the male will also use this beard display to prove dominance over the female or other Dragon's.
The Mainland Bearded Dragon has a less apparent pattern. They still have the spots along the back and pace pattern, although these markings are less visible than on the Central. Mainland Bearded's have a more greyish to dark brownish like colouring. They also feature a more spikey skin with the spikes along their side's being larger and more apparent then on the Central and the Black Soiled Dragon's. Mainland's also grow about one and a half to two inches larger than the other two. The Mainland also has the beard display but to add to it their tail from the middle to the end will go black aswell.
Then finally and probably the most different of the trio is the Black Soiled Bearded Dragon. It's biggest difference being the fact that for some reason it doesn't have a beard! They also have a much smoother apearance, with only a few spikes along the bottom jaw and a less apparent row across their sides. Although one thing it has in common with the Central is the strong markings.
As you can see by the pictures on this page not all of the lizards are as described. this is because of selective breeding and morphing.
This is a very breef discription at the moment and I am trying to get more information so if anyone has any suggestions or queries post them in my guest book or send me an E-mail at [email protected] |
