"The Surfing Accident" |
| Ella couldn't believe it! The big trip was tomorrow! For the last few days eleven-year-old Ella and her mother, Lisa, had been packing for a big trip to Maui, Hawaii. Ella's best friend, Caroline, was also coming on the trip. Tomorrow, they would get up early and head to the airport to catch their flight. Ella couldn't wait until the morning came. |
| The next morning Ella's mother woke her up. She was so excited! Ella and Lisa locked up their house and headed to Caroline?s house to pick her up. Finally, they got to the airport where they checked their bags and boarded the plane. The flight would take nine long hours. To the girls, the plane ride seemed to take forever. Finally, the plane arrived in Maui. The girls were jumping inside. They couldn't believe they were finally in Hawaii. |
| Lisa and the girls got off of the plane, found their bags, got a rental car, and headed to their hotel. Their hotel was located right on the beach on the west side of Maui. After checking into their room, the girls unpacked and got ready for a few hours at the beach. They couldn't wait to stick their toes into the sand and ocean. |
| The beach was so beautiful. Ella loved to watch the surfers ride the big waves. She wished she could do it. Before the trip though, Ella had asked if she would be allowed to surf. |
| Her mother said, "No! You are too inexperienced. The waves are too big, and the beach will be too rocky.'" |
| Ella would eventually hear her mother'swords ringing in her ears. |
| The next morning when they woke up they decided to go snorkeling. They rented their gear and headed towards the ocean. Caroline couldn't believe how clear the water was and how many beautiful fish there were. |
| ";Isn't snorkeling awesome?" Caroline asked. |
| ";Yeah, but surfing is better,"said Ella. |
| ';Now, Ella, remember what your mom said? She said that she didn't want you to go surfing. Ella, my suggestion is that you obey your mom, because she gave you good directions." |
| Later that night, they all got ready for bed and fell asleep. |
| In the middle of the night Ella woke up. She couldn't get surfing off of her mind. She just had to find a way to get past her mom and Caroline for just a bit. The whole night she lay there trying to figure out a plan. |
| The next day when they went to the beach she put her plan into action. Ella asked her mother if she could have some money to go rent some snorkeling gear. |
| Lisa said, "Okay, but be careful and be back soon."; |
| Yes, Ella's plan had worked perfectly! |
| Hurriedly, Ella ran towards the shack where you could rent gear. Inside, Ella found a surfboard. She paid for it and headed to a different part of the beach than where Caroline and Lisa were. She ran down to where all the surfers were, got on the board, and rode the waves. Ella had gone surfing only once before, so she knew she must be careful. |
| She was having a blast when things suddenly started to go wrong! First, the waves started getting larger. They crashed down on top of her. They were just too big to ride. She was in trouble now! The waves pulled her out so far and got so big that she lost her balance and fell off of her board. Her surfboard was carried away by the whipping waves. Then, Ella was taken under. The waves whipped her every which way. Ella started scraping rocks with her body. Eventually, she flipped and hit her head on a rock. She was now bleeding and scratched up very badly. |
| Meanwhile, back at the beach, Lisa and Caroline were getting very worried. They had looked everywhere, but they couldn?t find Ella. Caroline knew her friend well. She knew that Ella must have disobeyed her mother and went surfing. |
| Caroline said, ";Lisa, I bet Ella disobeyed you and went surfing. Yesterday, she was talking about surfing and how she wanted to do it." |
| Lisa said, "Caroline, I've got an idea. You and I will split up and look for Ella. If you find her bring her back here." |
| ";Okay," said Caroline. |
| Caroline went out and looked for Ella. She just had to find her. While Caroline was walking along the beach she saw a surfboard ride the waves up to the sand. Nobody was in sight, though. Caroline took the board and rode it out into the ocean. Eventually, she saw someone out really far. Could it be Ella? Caroline wasn't sure. The person was saying help and was trying to wave their arms. Suddenly, a wave picked the person up and carried her closer to shore. Caroline realized it was Ella and paddled the surfboard over to her. She pulled Ella up onto the board. Ella was so thankful to be rescued. |
| Once on the beach, Caroline helped Ella back to their spot. They grabbed some beach towels and wrapped them around her bleeding cuts. Just then, Lisa returned. The look on Lisa's face did not look too pleasant, but you could tell she was glad to find her daughter. They brought Ella to the hospital where they cleaned her wounds and gave her some stitches. Ella had a lot of bruises, cuts, and gashes, but nothing too serious. |
| When they got back to the hotel that night, Ella admitted to her mother that she should have listened to her. |
| "I'm very sorry, Mom, that I didn?t listen to your instructions and advice. I should have known that you had my best interests in mind. Instead, I listened to my own will. Please forgive me!" Ella sobbed. |
| Lisa said, "I forgive you, and I hope you have learned your lesson. From now on, please listen to my directions. I love you, Ella."; |
| "Yes, Mom. I love you, too," Ella said. |
| During the rest of their time in Maui, Ella, Caroline, and Lisa had a great vacation. Ella had learned the lesson of obedience. By the end of their vacation Ella's injuries were beginning to heal. After returning home, Ella tried to listen to her mother and Caroline. She knew that both of them were just trying to keep her safe. This was one vacation Ella would never forget. |
