                                What Makes a Good Friend?
Everyone needs a friend who will stand by you and influence you in a godly way.  God wants you to have friends who influence you correctly.  If you follow His instructions, God will be pleased, and you will have great friendships.
In my lifetime so far, I have had some friends who have truly influenced me in a godly way.  When I am going through something difficult, they are always there to remind me that God is beside me.  Proverbs 27: 17 says, "Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend."  My friends always try to sharpen my relationship with God, rather than tear it down.  They remind me that God does answer prayer and that He does hear me.  If I am having a hard time with a decision I must make, my friends remind me to ask, "What would Jesus do?''
All of my close friends are Christians.  They have accepted Christ and are trying to live a godly life.  All of my close friends attend church with their families.  We all go to a Christian school where we are taught more about God.  We have a common bond in Christ, and we do not create strife between each other.
My close friends have been taught by their parents the same things I have been taught.  All of my closest friends and their families love Jesus.  We are allowed to participate in the same types of activities.  We are disciplined for the same reasons.  One benefit about being taught the same way is that we can encourage each other to be obedient.
God wants us to only follow people who will lead us in the right way.  Everyone should have a friend whose actions are like Christ's.  God wants us to choose friends who
will lead us towards Him, not people who will lead us away from Him.  Proverbs 1:15 says, "My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path."  You should choose friends who will help you stay on the straight path that God has for your life.
You should choose friends wisely, because they could mess up your relationship with God.  If you choose friends that lead you the wrong way, they could make you turn away from God.  Eventually, they could keep you from attending church or from having your devotions.  Ungodly friends can also influence you to do and say things that are against Scripture.  You should choose your friends wisely because you often become like your closest friends.
Everyone should take God's advice when choosing friends!  If you do not, you could have serious problems with your relationship with God.  If you do take God's advice, you will grow closer to God and be blessed with a wonderful friendship as well.
