The Car Wreck
July 29, 2000
Hi!  My name is Katrina.  My brother, Kevin and I are on vacation with the rest of
my family.  We are taking a camper and going down Route 66.  Our destination is
Grandma's house!  Well, Dad needs to get gas, so I'll go stretch my legs!  I'll get out Star, my dog, too!

;You won't believe what happened.  We crashed.  You should see our car.  The whole door was broken off.  Our dog escaped, Dad fainted, and we lost our cell phone.  I was so sad.  Let me start at the beginning.
It was very hot.  We were going, then all of the sudden, this big truck came and pushed us off the road.  It was night, and no one was around.  I was SO scared.  Then Dad fainted, we think from shock.  Sarina, our little sister had her whole door torn off.  We all got out to help Dad.  Mom was waving perfume under his nose.  Then unbeknownst to us till later, Star escaped through the broken door.  We were so busy with Dad we didn't even notice!  Then my mom couldn't find her cell phone.  We were a crazy family right then, but there's more.
When my mom finally admitted that she couldn't find her cell phone, she decided to leave us with Dad, who was still in a faint, and go off for a gas station.  After a few steps from the car she stopped.
"I forgot there wasn?t a gas station for five more miles!" she cried.
We groaned, and then fell asleep.  I'll tell you more tomorrow.

I'm back!  Well, I'll continue the story.  We awoke to the sound of a big truck.  My first thought was "Oh no.  We're going to get run over again!"
Then the engine stopped, and a man knocked on our door.  I opened my eyes.  It was a tow truck!  The man helped get our car and camper connected to the truck, and helped the kids inside the cab first.  Then he and Mom lifted Dad up.  He took us to a gas station where we could use the phone and look for Star.  The man, whose name was Mr. Lee A. Zon, took our crashed car to Auto Zone and drove back with a rented one for us.  He was so nice!
Oh, and Star!  We were sad about her, but even sadder because Dad hadn't woken up.  The gas station man let us have the back room for Dad.  Then, ten minutes after we arrived, Dad woke up!  We rejoiced and thanked God!
Then Dad asked, "Where is Star?"
We all looked at each other anxiously.
The gas man said, "Excuse me, but is this your dog?  I found her last night and was wondering where she came from."
Out from the counter bounded Star!  She barked joyously, and we laughed happily.  We said another prayer thanking God for Star.  Alleluia!

We arrived at Grandma's house safely from there.  My older cousin asked me if I was scared to ride in a car again.  After thinking a while I replied, "No, I'm just afraid of big trucks.  I hold my breath whenever one passes!
We all laughed, then.  I'll remember this vacation forever!
