| The Medal of Valor Award was established by the CRCEMSA on Dec 17,2002. This award is awarded annually to a dedicated individual or group of individualsfrom northeast Arkansas serving in an EMS related field who exemplifies courage, dedication, and skill. Gerald Speer was it's first recipient. Gerald passed away in 2004 and the award was re-named in his memory. Nominations will be reviewed annually and based on years of service and/or acts of bravery and/or death in the line of duty. All nominations can be turned in to an officer of the Crowley's Ridge Chapter by March 1 to be considered for the award. The award shall be awarded every May for the previous year if the committe approves any of the nominations, otherwise no award shall be presented for that year. The presentation/announcement shall be made at the May Monthly CRCEMSA meeting or other chapter sponsored event. Nominations shall be considered by a committee consisting of all Offciers of CRCEMSA and two members at large appointed by the president. Approved 12/17/2002 |

| Gerald Speer, EMT #5917 Gerald worked as a volunteer EMT on the Rector Volunteer Ambulance Service in his home town of Rector from the service's early years until the service was bought by Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Then he continued to serve as a paid EMT at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center and also worked for Keller ambulance service, later known as Medic One until 2002, when his health forced him to retire. He served approximately 25 years in EMS. Gerald also served on the Rector Parks & Recreation, Relay for Life, Army National Guard, Rector Fire Dept, Crowley�s Ridge Chapter of EMS, and the Arkansas EMT Association. He was awarded the 2003 First CRCEMSA �Medal of Valor� award for his years of dedication to EMS. Gerald passed away on 9/28/03. He was a friend to all EMS throughout Northeast Arkansas and will be truly missed. In January 2004, the CRCEMSA voted to change the Medal of Valor Award to the Gerald Speer Medal of Valor Award, in memory of Gerald. Gerald truly exemplified the true intentions of this award. |
