Part 3
Confused, and slightly afraid, Hyru wandered through the streets. Maybe she was
imagining it, but it seemed to her that everyone she passed was giving her
strange looks. Damn! She was becoming more and more like Neon! She felt angry
at her paranoia. Something dropped at her feet. She looked up, but there was
nothing to be seen. She looked al around her, and realised that had walked
right past the inn, and was now in a different part of town. This seemed
different from the area immediately surrounding the inn. It had a darker look
to it, and the silence was stifling. There was absolutely no noise, not even
the whisper of wind. Hyru felt nervous, the strangers warning ringing in her
memory. She immediately felt silly, just because she was in a dark sinister
part of town didn’t mean something was going to happen. She turned around to
head back to the inn. There was a rustle behind her. She froze. Slowly,
dreading what might be behind her she turned, very slowly. But there was
nothing there. Only shadow. She turned and ran.
The silence deepened. Two of the darker shadows appeared to move. One seemed to
be turning to the other.
“So, that’s her?” whispered a voice, a voice that sounded like darkness.
“She’s the one who we need” a similar voice replied. The shadows faded, a final
whisper piercing the stifling silence
“We will soon make our move”
Back at the inn, Neon was starting to worry. Hyru had been gone for an awfully
long time. He finally decided it was time to go after her. As he left their
room the innkeeper hailed to him
“Weren’t you with a girl?” Thinking that the innkeeper knew something about
Hyru’s disappearance Neon turned to him.
“Yes! Do you..” the innkeeper interrupted.
“Where has she gone then? I was hoping to talk
with her” Neon shook his head and walked off. He didn’t see the innkeepers face
as he left, perhaps if he had he would have been more urgent trying to find
Hyru. He left the inn, wondering where she could have gone to.
After Neon had left the inn a second man emerged from a side room.
“So, the girls missing.”
“Does that surprise you? He probably told her about the arrangement.”
“Oh, I assure you, we made sure he can’t tell her anything.” The
innkeeper turned to the second man, a deranged smile on his face.
“Then we just need to find her before the boy does.
Kydetfo will have the sacrifice.”
