Part 2
Hyru lounged around the inn room. Suddenly the door burst open and Neon rushed
in.
"Hyru, we need to get out of this town!" Hyru looked at Neon, an
annoyed expression on her face.
"We only just got here! Why leave so soon?"
"The residents of this town are crazy! I overheard them talking about
killing someone" Hyru fell back on the bed with a sigh of exasperation.
"Neon! Listen! Nothing is going to happen! You
probably imagined the whole thing! We are not going anywhere! I have no
intention of wandering around the wilds for another 3 weeks! I need to find my
next spell." Neon glared at Hyru. True, had had expected this reaction, so
he wasn’t really surprised. Still she should at least ask him the details, not
just dismiss it as his imagination. Hyru stood up and flicked her hair back.
She gazed at Neon for a moment.
"I’m going to go and have a look round the town. See if I can find out
some information. Just stay here and keep out of
trouble" she paused a moment. "and don’t
bother glaring at me like that!". She turned her back to Neon and left the
inn room. Neon glared after her for a bit before sitting tensely on a bed. He
had no intention of following her. After all, how much trouble could an unarmed
girl get into in a town? Probably a lot really, but probably
none very deadly in a town this small.
Hyru wandered down the main street. There was nobody around. She gazed around, her eyes finally spotting what looked like a tavern.
A good source of information, she walked over too it and opened the door. As
she entered the tavern, every person in the room turned and stared at her.
Feeling slightly nervous, but nevertheless undaunted she headed towards the
bar. She could feel the eyes watching her cross the room, but she heard a quiet
murmur of conversation start up again. She sat nervously at the bar, wondering
how to approach someone, and how to engage them in conversation about magic.
Some more rural areas were slightly wary of magic. She strained to hear a
nearby conversation.
"I say we confront him" she heard a murmur of voices agreeing with
the speaker. Someone seemed enraged about his suggestion though, judging by the
way someone banged their fist on the table. Hyru stood up, to move further away
from the speakers. She wandered towards the door. As she passed a side door
though, she heard someone whisper.
"Pssst, girl. In
here." Curiosity got the better of her. She slipped through the door,
which closed behind her. She spun round quickly. The speaker was in shadow. She
was beginning to panic now.
"Who are you?" She demanded. The speaker stepped out of the shadows.
Hyru gasped. It was a young man. He looked incredibly pale, almost half
starved. But he was also incredibly good looking. He had long dark hair falling
around his shoulders, his eyes were deep brown,
although they looked haunted almost. He gazed at her a moment, before stepping
forward.
"you are in incredible danger in this town"
he said, in a whisper. Hyru felt annoyed. Why did she always attract the
paranoid men? She was about to answer him back when he continued, his voice
more urgent than before "please, believe me. If you stay here you will be
in a lot of trouble." Curiosity again rose in Hyru.
"Why?" she asked. The man looked around, before replying
"I can’t say. If they knew I had warned you my life would be
endangered." There was something about this man. She felt that she could
believe him, although she had no idea why.
"Tell me, why would your life be in danger?" The man gazed at her
again. His reply was bitter, full of hatred.
"Because the damn villagers are crazy!" Hyru
turned and left. Her mind reeling with what she had just been told. She was in
incredible danger in this town? Perhaps Neon had been right.
