Chronicles of Moonlight
Rating: PG
Genre:
Adventure
Setting:
all over the place!
Main
Characters: Eiko, Elco, Geno, Jet.
Note from the authoress: damn I wish this was real life! I’d love to have this much excitement in my life! But as it is…believe it or not none of this ever actually happened. Despite the fact I’m one of the characters! Btw, for anyone reading this who’s played Sudeki, I’m sorry, but I loved the name Elco for a scientist-type person, which is why he’s in this fic! But it isn’t the Elco from Sudeki, he’s my own personified Elco. Actually, the weaponry in it are similar to Sudeki as well. Lets just say that Sudeki was my starting point for this fic. That didn’t actually make much sense to me, but never mind. I’m gonna stop rambling now and tell you what I wanted to say: this is set in a different world. Not earth, so any scientific theories you find are not necessarily true to earth Scientifics! Thank you, and enjoy the chronicles! oh, yeah, and I’m sorry if I keep going from past to present tense.
Chronicle Three: Enter the Explorer
Dreams
filtered through my head as I slept peacefully underneath the canopy of trees
covering us. Through my dreams elves danced, singing beautifully in their sweet
voices, through the song I heard rumours and abuse, directed at the elves, from
humans, which drifted around glaring jealously at the creatures. Then,
something happened, I wasn’t sure why, but I awoke with a jump. I blinked
twice, looking around at the forest, bathed in a musky darkness. It seemed dawn
was approaching. I wondered what had woken me, and shivered. The early morning
air was cold, sending chills through my body. I sat up, looking around. I
couldn’t see the elf. I made a move to stand up, but a figure moved in the
darkness. I gazed harder at the spot and saw the prone figure of Jet a short
way from me. I gazed at him. He was crouched down by a bush, making it hard to
spot him, if you did not know he was there. He motioned me to stay still. I
could see he was tense, and I could not help but wonder what was wrong. Then I
heard it. It was muffled, but the sound of something moving through the forest
was quite obvious. I saw Jet tense, and his head jerked around to look directly
at me. I knew what he was thinking, and I was not to happy. Whoever- or
whatever- was approaching was approaching behind me. That made it impossible
for Jet to surprise them, his position was wrong. I practically stopped
breathing, hoping that whatever was creeping around did not know I was here.
The tree probably hid me a bit, but was it enough. But there was some hick
undergrowth nearby, the perfect hiding place for an attacker. And the rustling
was now clearly coming from over in the deep vegetation. I turned my head,
transfixed, only noting slightly that Jet had slipped silently into the bush. I
held my breath focusing on the bush with all my might. As was usual when I felt
helpless, or deep in thought, I carefully licked my sharp incisor teeth. I
found myself wishing I had some sort of weapon.
The rustling stopped suddenly. If it were possible, I
tensed even more, terror flitting across my face. Then, flashing in the greyness of the light, three
long metal claws slashed through the undergrowth, ripping plants to shreds. At
the same moment, I heard a cry of anger, and heard a crash of metal on metal. I
stared anxiously into the undergrowth, but could see nothing but the odd flash
of metal. I could guess what had happened. Jet had surprised the attacker, and
they were now engaged in a fight. Then, before my eyes, a man tumbled from the
bushes. As I watched, the elf followed him, sabre
drawn, and he brought the weapon in a downwards arc. But the man on the ground
swept up his hand, blocking the blow with the metal claws. He forced himself to
his feet, and struck out with his claws. I gave a scream as his blow hit Jet.
But Jet retaliated quickly, blocking a thrust from the claws, and twisting the mans arm behind his back. I heard myself scream.
“Don’t kill him.” Jet relaxed his blade, which was
even now pressed to the strangers’ throat. Instead of issuing the final blow,
he instead hissed in the strangers’ ear.
“Speak. Why are you sneaking around? And who are you?”
the strangers breathing was fast, as he quickly spoke his reply.
“My name is Geno, I’m an explorer. I was merely trying
to find my way out of this undergrowth. I had no idea anyone was here.” As he
spoke, I could see his eyes. Instinctively, I could tell he wasn’t lying. His eyes
showed fear, and he was tense, afraid of what the elf might do. Uncalled, my
thoughts of the rumours and fear of the elves humans held. Was this man the
same? Wad his hatred of elves as great as those of my town? Still wondering, I
walked over to Jet and lay my hand on his.
“He’s telling the truth. Let him go” reluctantly, the
elf lowered his blade. I wondered if Geno was going to attack the elf, now he
had been spared. But Geno carefully removed the claws from the backs of his
hands. He turned to Jet.
“Sorry, I injured you. Please understand I was only
acting in self defense. I know about healing, let me look at that cut.” Jet
didn’t reply, instead turning away. Geno shrugged helplessly and turned back to
me. “Thank you miss, you saved my life.” I smiled at him, brushing my hair out
of my eyes. I walked past him and approached Jet.
“It’s a bad cut. At least let him help. He is sincerely sorry.” Jet
gazed at me for a moment, before nodding, in a disgruntled defeat. Slowly, he
walked back over to Geno. After a few moments of quiet conversation, I watched
as Geno started to work on the injury he had given the elf. I felt glad about
how civil each was being, and settled down by my tree again, cuddled down
against the wind that swept across the clearing. I wondered vaguely about what
the morning would bring, where we would head for. I couldn’t stop myself from
wondering, as I drifted back to sleep, what Geno was doing wandering around the
forest so early. I slipped back into sleep, all thoughts fading into a confused
dream.
