Part 4

Seviara was visibly shaking. Vyrock had a grin on his face. Catriona  felt that they would have to let the faerie join them. They had to keep moving to fid out what had happened to the Earth Spirit. But it was clear that Seviara would never allow Vyrock to join their team.
“How dare you make request of us!” she spluttered, rage surrounding her. Vyrock’s smile never left his face

Lemme put it this way chick, do ya really have a choice?!” He was right, Catriona knew he was. If they wanted to continue they had to pass the barrier. But the wood spirit was to stubborn to allow the faerie to join them. Catriona was quickly beginning to see that if they were going o get anywhere she had to take matters into her own hands. And she didn’t cherish the thought of going against the wood spirits wishes.

“Very well Vyrock, you may join us” she said quietly. The outcome was just as she had expected. Seviara turned on her, angry that she had given way to the faerie.

“What in the name of the spirits do you think you are doing?! We can not trust a faerie! They only care about themselves!” Yeah, thought Catriona, and your only looking out for the greater good.

“Hey chick,” Vyrock interrupted, “in case ya dint realise, we’re all here for our own good. The kid wants to restore her town ta normal, and you, chick, need the earth spirit back cuz ya existence depends on it!” Seviara stared at Vyrock, her face the very mask of rage. But she didn’t argue.

“Fine, let the faerie come along. You’ll regret it human!” She stormed off down the path. Well, more glided angrily, yet it seemed that she managed to stamp while gliding. Catriona was suddenly aware that Vyrock was sitting on her shoulder again.

“Bloody spirits. Ya have to know whatcha dointa go up against spirits.”

“Does her existence really depend on the earth spirit?” Catriona asked, intrigued.

yeah kid, she’s the wood spirit ain’t she? Wood cant survive without Earth. Wivout the Earth spirit she’s practicly nothin’.  If ya don’t find the earth spirit soon tis likely she’ll jus’ vanish” Catriona thought back to when she first met Seviara. She had been crying. Without the Earth spirit she was practically nothing? Was that why she looked down on Catriona? Was that why she felt she was being used by the Wood Spirit? Because without Catriona’s help Seviara couldn’t do anything? With these thoughts running through her head Catriona numbly followed Seviara down the road. Vyrock was chattering away in her ear, but she wasn’t paying attention. Her mind was drifting back to the scars on the road. Why had the area been that badly scarred? It didn’t make any sense. The gardens of Terra hadn’t looked like that, so why should the road be different? She asked the faerie about it.

“Why ya ask? Hmmm, that’s a tough ‘un! I guess, simply its cuz the Earth spirit aint around to tend to the land.”

“But the Terra gardens weren’t scarred!”

“The Terra garden have other spirits in em. Listen, kid. Here on the road ya don’t get many spirits, only the Earth spirit. So when the Earth Spirit vanishes, so do all the wild life’s life support.”

“Vyrock, why did you want to join us so badly?”

“Why? Well, kid, like I said, there’s no life force round here now. And there ain’t none in my village. I promised to help restore the Earth Spirit. The Faerie prophecies foretold that a spirit and a human would set out on a journey to restore the earth spirit, see. So I jus’ waited til ya shew up”

“I see”

Seviara was slowing down up ahead. Catriona put on a slight burst of speed to catch up to her.

“What’s the matter?” she murmured. Seviara glared.

“Nothing is wrong human! We are just nearly at the Moon Oracle.” Catriona looked up hopefully.

“Really? How much further is it?”

“For your information, it is just past those hills.” Seviara snapped in return. Catriona felt Vyrock climb up onto her head.
“Hey, chick, what’s that smoke about? Some sorta ritual or summit?”

“Don’t be impudent faerie. There is no smoke.”  Catriona gazed in the distance at the mountains, but she couldn’t see any smoke either. Could Vyrock have been joking?

“Fine, please yerself! You’ll see when we get there.” The small group continued walking towards the Moon Oracle.
It didn’t take too long to reach it and, sure enough, as they neared the place that Seviara had pointed out to be the Oracle they noticed smoke pouring from it. Panic made the group run towards the Oracle. But as they rounded the mountain a devastating sight greeted them. The moon oracle was shattered into pieces. There was no way they could ask the Oracle anything now. They were completely at a loss
