Part 3

Catriona and Seviara had left the Earth gardens. Both lost in their own thoughts, Catriona thought. She smiled softly. Did spirits have thoughts?

"What are you smiling at?" Catriona jumped as the wood spirits voice ripped through her mind.

"I’m sorry, I was just thinking." Seviara sniffed, that is, if you could call it a sniff. It was more the sound of branches rustling.

"Just like a human, thinking about their own selfish selves, never of the greater beings of a world!" Catriona gasped at this comment, she was beginning to feel annoyed with Seviara. She automatically assumed that she was far better than Catriona. It seemed to Catriona that the wood spirit was merely using her for her own purposes. She didn’t answer Seviara’s comment, she just kept walking. She never thought that someone could be so horrible.

"Where exactly are we heading?" Catriona asked. The look Seviara gave her, it was withering.

"For your information human, we are heading towards the temple of the oracle of the Moon." Catriona was taken aback. She had always assumed that the oracle of the moon was a myth. No one had ever found it, although many explorers had passed through the gardens on their way to it. The oracle of the Moon was said to be the most knowing being on Djinova. The spirit floated along beside Catriona in silence. She had noticed this right at the start. Seviara didn’t walk, she floated. It was slightly unnerving, almost ghostly. Catriona gazed around her for the first time since they had left. What she saw left her in shock. She had travelled this road once with her mother, on the way to the capital city, Terra. Then it had been overflowing with flowers and grass. It was a beautiful route. Not anymore it seemed. She had expected everything to be dead, with Earth Spirit absent. But the sides of the road were deeply scarred, the scars ran everywhere. There was no sight of any flowers even existing, just ugly bruises over the land, like the very life had been sucked out of it.

"Terrible ain’t it?" Catriona jumped and glanced at Seviara. That wasn’t the way the wood spirit talked. Anyway, she appeared to be indifferent to the disembodied voice.

"Ain’t no point lookin’ at that chick kid, she’s thick as two short planks and way more wooden." Catriona giggled. Seviara glared at her. She still didn’t appear to have heard the voice. It had been right inside Catriona’s mind. She whispered softly

"Where are you?" There was a slight puff of smoke on a nearby verge. Catriona looked at it. Seviara had obviously sensed something was wrong. She was now looking at the bank, with a completely appalled expression on her face.

Standing there when the smoke had cleared was a small person. Its hair was long, tied back roughly. It wore a warrior’s outfit, and was covered in miniscule knives. Catriona found it incredibly hard not to laugh at the sight of it. Suddenly the little person jumped, and to Catriona’s surprise landed on her shoulder.

"Pretty good huh?" Catriona giggled. Seviara looked incredibly angry, almost as if she was about to burst into flame.
"What is THAT doing here?" she demanded.

"Hey chick, I gotta name ya know!" The little person replied. Catriona glanced at the wood spirit, knowing she wouldn’t like being called "chick".

"What is your name?" Catriona asked quickly. The little person jumped to the ground and gave an elegant bow.

"Vyrock at ya service kid. Faerie warrior extraordinaire."

"Fairy? Where are your wings though?" Vyrock gave Catriona a look of pity.

"An ere’s me thinkin’ you’re smarter than this chick." He waved a hand vaguely at Seviara "we ain’t all hot little chicks in skirts with wings. No faerie has wings. that’s just an old people tale. We also don’t grant wishes." Seviara was shaking in rage now. She grabbed at the faerie. However, Vyrock’s speed was far greater, he avoided her lunge, and Catriona realised he was sitting on her shoulder again.
"Calm down Seviara. He doesn’t mean any harm" Seviara was enraged

"Don’t take his side human! Faeries are nothing but scheming trouble makers!" Vyrock laughed at this comment. Catriona spoke up.
"Seviara, this fighting isn’t helping us to find the Earth spirit. We have to carry on" She turned to walk away, and, glancing at the wood spirit, was relieved to find she was following. Suddenly Catriona bumped into something solid. Seviara shouted out.

"You see!! He has created an invisible wall!"

"Chill chick! I wanna join your quest!" Catriona stared. Vyrock was standing in front of them again. She heard Seviara gasp at his request.

"What makes you think we need a faerie?" The faerie gazed at her.

"Simple. Your trapped. And I ain’t gonna free ya unless ya let me join ya."
