Part 1

With a shout of horror Neon jumped up. The dark room was illuminated by a flash of lightning momentarily. Neon felt relieved that there were no blood stained knives lit up in the lightning. He had just had the worst nightmare. He had been left alone in a lighthouse with eight bloodthirsty kids. And one of them had approached him, brandishing a rusty bread knife, a mad glint in his eyes. Thank god it was all a dream. Neon stood up, cursing slightly as pain ran through his legs. He had been lying down so long his legs had died. He looked around, remembering the events of the last few days. He remembered with a sickening feeling that he was indeed alone in the lighthouse with eight demonic children, but at least there was a shortage of bread knives lying around. There was a loud crash of thunder. He heard panicked screams coming from the room opposite. He nervously opened the door, instinctively dodging back as the door opened fully in case of any stray axes suddenly flying at the door. When sudden death was clearly not happening, he breathed a sigh of relief and stepped into the hall, accompanied by another flash of lightning and a deep roll of thunder. There were kids running around in the hall, clearly terrified out of their tiny little minds. Suddenly one of them flung itself at him. He staggered backwards as it clung onto his leg trying to hide from the relentless crashes of thunder. He hook his leg until it let go, and it curled up on the floor and cried. But Neon had other things to worry about. Just as he had dislodged the one on the floor, whom he had distinguished as Lillith, the twins had in turn jumped at him. Pyro was screaming at the top of his voice, and Krylo merely squeezed him in a death grip, which could also be identified as a hug. Aslo had somehow managed to climb onto his back and he was now choking as the brat gripped him around the neck in pure terror.  The others were still running up and down the hall screaming. Annoyed Neon shouted at the top of his voice.

“That’s ENOUGH!!! Stop crying, dammit! Its just a small storm! I’d hate to see you in the storm that hit Verl a while back! It wasn’t only thunder and lightning then, magical charge was leaping along the road. There was actually a possibility of sudden and painful death then!” The children had quieted down in shock at the sound of Neon shouting, they had come to regard him as a useless pushover. But at his mention of sudden and painful death they unanimously started crying. Neon rolled his eyes in despair. How in the world was he supposed to shut the little brats up? He hated to admit it, and knew he would deny it later, but there seemed no choice to him now but to be nice to them. It was a concept that was totally new to him. He thought back to Hyru’s behaviour while she had still been at the lighthouse. Hot Chocolate seemed popular with them. Taking a deep breath he tried his luck.

“Calm down! I’ll make you some hot chocolate if you shut up and stop panicking! Its not as if your in any danger.” He was pleased to see that it had the desired effect. The children became subdued. Marno ran forward, tripping at the last minute and bowling into Neon, but when he regained his balance he hugged Neon. Neon led the crowd of children down to the kitchen, and made up eight cups of hot chocolate. Relieved at the lack of screaming he handed them out to the children. But as he handed out the seventh mug, he felt a jolt of horror. All of the children had mugs of hot chocolate, yet there was one left over. He realised that one of the children was missing. Despite himself he panicked, looking around to see who was missing. He slowly became aware of a lack of staring. Rune was missing! He realised with shock that Rune would not allow the other children to have hot chocolate if he was likely to miss out. He crept out of the kitchen and ran up to the bedrooms, praying that the little psycho was in bed. But as he opened the door it was apparent that there were no children in the room. Frantically he searched the lighthouse, trying to find him. But there was no sign of him. He went back to the kitchen, hoping that he had merely hidden in the kitchen to scare him. But he opened the door, and there was no sign of him among the other children, who had finished their hot chocolate, and six of which were asleep. Only Relicani was awake. She whispered quietly.

“What’s wrong? You said there was nothing to be afraid of!” he looked over the sleeping children. They looked almost cute when they weren’t awake. He thought that maybe Relicani would know where  Rune might be, as she often watched quietly what the others were up to. He told her that Rune had vanished. She looked almost like she had grown bored of the topic for a moment. Then her eyes snapped back to Neon.

“Have you looked outside? Rune often tries to get outside in thunderstorms” Neon jumped up immediately and ran outside, scanning the windswept area with his eyes. A small, pitiful cry of help drifted up from the direction of the sea. Realisation hit Neon hard. Rune had fallen over the cliffs!
