BOUNCY CASTLES
Rating: PG
Genre: Humour
Setting: A bouncy castle….
Main Characters: Eiko and her muses
Authoress note: Erm…. No idea what happened here…put it this
way, I was bored and stuck on a bus for 20 hours!
More often than not, certain
differences spring up between an author and her muses. I don’t mean the usual,
healthy squabbling, which is part of writing stories, but a rift, if you will.
There are several reasons why this may happen: lack of treats for inspiring a
good story, the muses forgetting their dear authoresses birthday. But the
worst, I must admit, is the obtainment of a new muse, which builds on the
tensions of the existing ones.
You see, muses are very proud.
They believe that they, and only they, can inspire an authoress in her work.
True, other muses come and go, but the muses don’t mind this. But when a muse
appears who seems fit to stay, that is when the problems arise.
Those who know me will by now
realise that I am speaking of my newest muse, Sephiroth, and the problems his
appearance caused. You see, about a month ago he appeared to me, inspiring me
to create my dolls. It was a new area among muses. Skye and Benji couldn’t care
less, being my main muses of story inspiration. Darc, well, he enjoyed watching
his brother suffer. For Kharg was the only one who felt threatened.
Poor Kharg, he never was much
of a story inspirer, but he took solace in the fact that he was inspiring me to
draw. Well, you can just imagine his horror when Sephiroth showed up. Sephiroth
couldn’t care less about stories, leaving that to the others. But he was a
master at inspiring dolls. Not only that he was far more popular than Kharg,
for even the most naïve will now the name Sephiroth (Not least because I have
written a story about him, although Kharg shouldn’t be dispirited by that fact,
as my Arc stories always involve him.)
Still, he was threatened and t
led to trouble. May I be so bold as to mention that it resembled a miniature
war? I guess I was partly to blame. After all, I spent most of my spare time
fawning over Sephiroth. But let us go back, all the way to Skye’s birthday.
Firstly, you must understand
that Skye loves Sephiroth, obvious by the fact that he inspired me to write
about him. Therefore, he naturally stayed on Sephiroth’s side. But I digress.
A muse’s birthday is a special
occasion. For Skye we decided to hire a bouncy castle. That was the day the
trouble started.
A FEW DAYS AGO
Wrapping paper littered the
room. Skye sat happily in the mess, batting a ball he had received with his
paw. Darc was eating some trifle and wearing a party hat. Sephiroth was resting
his head against Eiko, who was stroking his long silver hair. Kharg glared
jealously at Sephiroth. Unfortunately, Benji was looking to stir up trouble. He
whispered to Kharg, and Kharg, easily provoked by the tiger, jumped up.
“It’s not fair! You never
stroked my hair!” Eiko blinked at Kharg in surprise. Sephiroth smirked.
“That’s because I’m a God!”
Kharg made a noise like that of a disgruntled elephant and stormed out. Skye
paid no attention, instead jumping up and shouting,
“Let’s go play on the bouncy
castle!” Sephiroth stood and shook his hair back, before striding after Skye
who had scampered out of the room. Benji followed Kharg. Eiko glanced at Darc.
He crept closer to her, muttering
“I don’t like this.” Eiko
agreed. Darc gave a grin “Let them sort it out themselves!” He grabbed hold of
Eiko’s arm and dragged her to the pub.
Eiko was unsure what exactly
happened over the next few hours. As
far as she could tell she had curled up behind the bar hugging a bottle of
vodka. She awoke later to find Darc using her back as a pillow and snoring
gently. She shook her head and stood up Darc rolled off of her, bumping his
head on a shelf. He jumped up
immediately. Eiko giggled and pulled him properly to his feet. The duo
staggered slowly home.
Eiko blinked.
“Ok, this is bad! We should
have sorted this out earlier!” Darc nodded vaguely, still trying to take in the
scene that lay before his eyes. Several piles of water balloons were stacked
around the bouncy castle that had been partially barricaded off. Eiko had no
other plan than to roll her eye, for standing in the middle of the castle was
Sephiroth, a fake plastic sword in his hand, laughing manically. Skye
meanwhile, was bouncing off the castles walls. Kharg stood outside the door,
soaked, Benji hovering a little way off, well out of range of the balloons.
Clearly, it seemed that Kharg
had decided to wager war on the bouncy castle. He now advanced slowly.
“This is your last chance!
Surrender the castle or else!”
“Wheee!” Skye bounced happily
past Sephiroth. Sephiroth spread his arms wide.
“Never! I am the ruler of the
universe! Retreat or you will be bombed!”
He gracefully swooped down,
catching the water balloon in his hand and straitening up in one fluid
movement. He stood now, bouncing the balloon in his hand.
“Wheee!” Skye bounced past in
the other direction.
Darc gazed quietly at Kharg
muttering
“Go on! Go closer” Eiko sighed
and shook her head, before striding out towards the castle, intent on stopping
this battle. Sephiroth spotted her as she drew closer, and made an elegant bow.
“Ah, my queen has returned” He
held out his hand to her “Join me by my side.” Eiko stopped, and taken by a
rush of power flipped her hair and stalked onto the bouncy castle, taking hold
of Sephiroth’s hand. All in all a really stupid move. Kharg saw her and stopped
glaring evilly, clearly convinced that he had indeed now been replaced with
Sephiroth.
With a roar of anger, he
turned and stared at Benji, who was kneading the floor with his claws. In a
wave of fury Kharg grabbed hold of Benji by the tail and, swinging him round
his head, hurled the tiger at the bouncy castle.
Sephiroth gave a yelp as the
cat’s claws made contact with the inflatable sides of the castle. For a moment,
nothing happened. Benji, his fur on end, had his claws buried in the side and
his tail was straight out behind him. Sephiroth and Eiko stared at him. Kharg
looked furious and Darc worried. Skye bounced past.
“Wheee!” Then, ever so slowly,
Benji slid down the side of the castle, a rush of air following in his wake
where his claws ripped the material.
Sephiroth grabbed Eiko’s arm and dragged her away from the castle. She
caught hold of Skye by the scruff of his neck while he was in mid bounce. Then,
just as they were clear, the castle collapsed in on itself as the air rushed
from it. Sephiroth immediately turned to Kharg.
“That was stupid!” It sparked off an argument between them.
Eiko ignored them instead cuddling Skye, who was quietly sobbing at the loss of
his birthday treat. Eiko petted him and passed him to Darc, before turning to
the arguing muses.
“That’s ENOUGH!” she shouted,
“I hope you’re both happy! You’ve ruined Skye’s birthday!” Sephiroth opened his
mouth to argue, “I don’t want to hear excuses! You’re as much to blame as Kharg
for provoking him. Now I want you to apologise to Skye, and then go to your
rooms and think about what you did.” Both muses muttered an apology to Skye and
slunk inside. If they had possessed tails, they would probably be between their
legs. Eiko shook her head then went over to the castle. She moved a bit of it
aside and uncovered Benji. She stroked his head before picking him up and
carrying him back to Darc and Skye, who was now contentedly bating Darc’s hair
with his paw. Eiko looked at him, concealing a grin.
“Let’s head inside and get
some hot chocolate.”
If anything this experience
helped Kharg and Sephiroth get along better. They were slightly more tolerant
of each other. Kharg was happy because Sephiroth had also been told off, and
Sephiroth was scared of Eiko shouting at him again. It was the perfect
friendship.
