When Mal is called by another ship, the crew of Serenity go to help a group of Independents. However once there, Mal and the others met up meeting Bailey--who's relationship with Mal is rather shocking.

With Bailey and Mal going through sibling rivalry and arguments the Serenity crew takes on new passengers in hopes of getting a break from the Reynold family feud. But when they discover a possible Reaver in their midst, Bailey and Mal are all work in a battle that will take both of their 'more charming skills'

With River having moments of Clarity on what the Alliance did to her, Serenity is discovered by her 'two by two, blue hands' men. Now Mal is determined to not only rescue his crew but attempt to help River--even if that means stealing Inara's shuttle. Meanwhile, Bailey attempts a daring rescue of her own to protect Simon from River's attackers and the Alliance--at least to buy her brother some time.

The Sequel to Sweet Little River, Mal discovers after rescuing his crew that Bailey made a deal with River's captors for Simon's life. Now with his sister on a transport ship to the Central Planets, Mal must come up with a plan to save her as Bailey's own life is place in danger due to what she knows.
