| Conservation No, for those wondering, this is not an article on republicans. Its conservation. Im no where to stand really, I havent made a difference, and I am not a model for conservation, but I have made an effort. What is conservation in the sense I am speaking of? I mean for environmental reasons. Saving electricity, not buying food in disposable packages, not wasting the earths resources for mean unnecessary to your survival. But you see, Im a kid, I dont really have a choice. But I will try. Here is my question to you. What have you done, in the last week, to try and conserve some of earths quickly diminishing resources? When this was written, (12/25/03) I could say that I tried. How? Only a little, but some. I made sure to turn off of the lights when I left a room, or passed an empty one. I bought some things and didnt use a bag, I used my backpack. I used both sides of my paper; I didnt buy new clothes, and used no products with chemical byproducts. Anything special here? No, little things to, small things that really do little to help, but if everyone on earth, or in the 25% that is developed, did this then would it help? Yes. What If we didnt get 20 new plastic bags each time we went to the supermarket? What if everyone did? Then there would be no more reason for the plastic bags. The gathering of raw materials, production, and shipping of it, which all produce pollution and waste resources and cost money would be out of the picture. Difference? Yes. What if we all didnt drive SUVs? What is we drove cars of reasonable size instead, like a minivan, which have 1 less seat that I doubt many people need. You need space for something? Rent a truck. You going to the supermarket? If you cant even fill the car with the people, why would you need the food? Make a second trip that would waste as much gas and resources. There is no reason for it. But what is wrong with an SUV? I mean they are big with lots of space for all needs! Well they give shit for miles to the gallon, they dont follow the car emissions act, and they are so big that they waste resources to make, not to mention the factories, oil, and shipping used there. And then another thing that you can do to help the environment, which if kept at this rate will kill the earth in 50 years, is to not vote republican. Yes, that is right, the root of most of environmental evil is republicans, and their supporters. You see, republicans dont like the poor, abortions, homosexuals, and of course things that get in the way of them making billions of dollars, specifically the environment. They didnt ratify the Kyoto Protocol, they open the Alaska wildlife preserve to oil drilling, they arent even forcing car manufacturers to research cleaner sources of energy or cleaner cars! And you say that the democrats were as bad? No, they arent. the last democratic president in the last 20 years, Bill Clinton, actually did the opposite closing more lands and putting stricter constraints on what corporations can, or cant, do. Now, why are republicans evil like this? For one thing, they love money, and so do those who fund them, and usually they own, or partly own, a company that will benefit if they stop caring about the environment. Look at Dick Cheney, he used to be the CEO of Halliburton, a huge oil company. So what does he do? He opens up Alaskas environmental preserve to oil drilling, and started a war with a country with the second biggest amount of oil on earth. And then Condoleezza rice has an oil tanker named after her! So just to sum it up, dont vote republican. The last thing you can do, besides not voting republican, and trying your hardest to conserve valuable resource, is to not have any more children. Yes, it is one more thing you can do. Why? Well there is a population crisis on earth, where there are to many people and not enough food or resources. If you are reading this from a developing country then this applies to you, but not as much because one person in a developed nation produces as much pollution as 30 people in a developing nation. So dont have kids! Think about it. You wake up, turn off your alarm clock, take a shower, have breakfast, drive to work/school, sit in a heated or air-conditioned room for 4 hours, drive to have lunch, drive back, sit for another 4 hours, then drive home. Do they do that in developing countries? Yes, but in a different sense. They dont all have AC and heating, they dont all have cars, showers, alarm clocks, cars, so they dont have the adverse effects on the world. So in short, conserve, dont vote republican, and try to have as few kids as possible so that those kids have a tomorrow to look forward to. |
