The gothic mindset I would describe as this. Everybody is created unique, and we ought to embrace that diversity and not discourage it. We shouldn't sell ourselves over to what we dislike or don't stand for, and we should maintain the right to express what we do like and what we do stand for. We should never sell ourselves short of the real us. When we do I believe we spit in the face of God and say "I don't like who you made me to be.". The same goes when we insult the differences of another. Acceptance is a major factor. Acceptance of others and self, acceptance of the ugly realities of this world we live in. They should not be swept under the rug, but understood and dealt with. Same goes for the dark side of us as human beings - we should not say "I'm perfect!" but yet admit our flaws, try to understand them and overcome them. Thinking, discerning and understanding are important. We must always remember not to just believe every little whisper that blows in our ears, but to make sure whether or not something is true or false, shunning what is false and striving for what's true. The admission of one's own darkness leads to this - we no longer fear it. We become able to see beauty in it and sometimes comfort. When life turns to discord we can see a glimmer of light being carried along by the darkness, strengthening us and turning things for the good, not just choking us out. |
