Mini Bio

Tobey was born Tobias Vincent Maguire on June the twenty-seventh in 1975 in Santa Monica, California to parents: Vincent, a cook at the time and Wendy, a secretary who were 18 and 20 at the time of his birth. They are divorced now and split when Tobey was two. Tobey was moving constantly when he was younger to other parts of California, Oregon and Washington. He quit school in the ninth grade to pursue acting…he got several commercials and a few bit parts on television. His first ‘big’ role was on “Great Scott” which lasted nine weeks before being cancelled.

Tobey is known for avoiding drugs and alcohol (normal Hollywood pitfalls) but is still a huge partier; often in Leonardo DiCaprio’s group of cohorts. Tobey is very health conscious: he’s a strict vegetarian (tofu anyone?) and practices yoga regularly. He also once considered becoming a chief; he enjoys cooking a lot. In addition to that: Tobey does not drink or smoke. (WHOOO! Go Tobes!)

His hugest role to date (the one that gained him the most publicity) is that of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Spider-Man. Tobey had to buff up quite a bit to get the role. He has said that it is not his dream role, but he was just interested in the project.

Tobey’s other large films include Wonder Boys with Michael Douglas, The Ice Storm with Elijah Wood and Kevin Kline (amongst many others) and Pleasantville with Reese Witherspoon and Jeff Daniels.

Do not fret, there will be much more of Tobey on the horizon for all you fans when the second installment of Spider-Man is released sometime in 2004.
