Chapter 19 : Unsolved
Mysteries
“What are you talkin’ about Luv?
What son?” He watched confused as her fingers touched her neck.
“No bite. God it was so real.”
She rubbed her eyes. “I could feel it. I could feel him hurting me inside.”
Spike growled and vamped out
immediately at the thought of someone hurting *his* Faith. “WHO?”
She smiled and caressed his
forehead until it was smooth again. “The Master.”
“What?”
“I assume it was. I never
actually met him, but B told me all about it when I first came. I saw a couple bad
drawings, but nothing compared to... he was so cold, so mean.”
“Luv, would you *please* fill me
in.”
“I can’t. I don’t know what’s
happening. It’s as if I’m seeing through someone else’s eyes, in someone else’s
head. It was cold, and I was locked in this room and all I kept thinking about
was reaching my son. I was scared, SO scared. I was hungry and when he... it
was so real. I felt him, heard him drinking from me, and I was so thirsty, I
just drank. It hurt so much, Spike when I woke up. It was like my entire body
was on fire, like I was being torn apart from the inside. It hurt so bad and
all I kept thinking about was my son.”
“You said you thought ‘they’ had
you. Who were they?”
“The Council.”
“I don’t get it Luv. Have you
ever had these dreams before?”
“Not really. B used to say she
had prophetic dreams, like she dreamt where you were hiding the Judge and she
was able to find you. But this wasn’t prophetic; it was old, like centuries
old. I was wearing this old dress, like women in history books.”
“Like Titanic history or history
history?”
“History history. Like before
your mother was born.” She leaned back against the pillows. “It was so real, I
could feel it. I still can. I can feel him on top of me, inside me. I can still
feel it Spike. What does that mean? I can still feel the loneliness of not
having my son. I don’t understand.”
Spike laid back and pulled her
into his arms. “I know Luv. We’ll figure it out. In the meantime, we’ll get
those things for Raven. Maybe they have some answers at Council headquarters.”
“We’re going to Council
headquarters?”
“That’s where the stuff is.
That’s where we go.”
“England?”
“Yeah. I’ll fit right in Luv.
You may be a problem, but she wants those things. She gets them, we get each
other.”
“What do you know
about Raven?” Faith asked snuggling into him.
“What’s to know? Why?”
“I’m just curious. Where does
she come from? England?”
“I don’t think so, but she’s so
old, I don’t think anyone but the Master and maybe Darla knew.”
“Who’s Darla?”
“Angel’s sire. My grandsire. Why
the questions about Raven?”
“She was in my dream.”
“With the son?”
“No, in the other one. The one
where you died. She was standing laughing as they staked you. What if she wants
you gone so she can have me? We can’t fight her.”
“Raven keeps her word. She said
we were protected.”
“Then why was she in my dream?”
“I don’t know Luv. You do have a
connection with her now.”
“She knew one of the Council
guys at the warehouse. She called one by name. He said it’d been a while. What does
that mean?”
“I don’t know. She’s been around
a while, made some enemies, perhaps he’s an old rival.”
“There was more to it than that
Spike. I know there was.”
He kissed her forehead. “We’ll
find out, but let’s get to England first, then we’ll worry about everything
else.”
“Sounds like a plan.”
“You’ll love England. It’s been
so long since I’ve been back. We can go to London if you want Bunny. Do you?”
No answer. “Bunny?” He asked again, but realized she was fast asleep. He hoped
another dream wouldn’t come. She needed some sleep.
Chapter 20 : Making
Plans
She woke up and the bed was
empty, save for her. She sat up and looked around. Was it a dream? Had he left?
Had he been taken? She jolted up panicking. “Spike?” She asked hopefully.
“Morning Luv.” He walked out of
the shower with a towel wrapped around his waist, hanging low. He had a towel
around his neck, from drying his hair.
“Don’t scare me like that
anymore.”
“Like what?”
“I thought you had left.”
“I’ll never leave you on purpose
Faith. I told you that before.”
“I know, but people leave. It’s
what they do.”
“I’m not a person. Did you sleep
well?”
“Yes I did. Finally.”
“Good. You should go to Raven
and find out exactly what she wants. I’ll book us a flight.”
“What about the sun?”
“First class.”
“First class has windows too.”
“I’m buying the whole cabin for
the flight. That way we can close them all.”
“Okay. Sounds like a plan. I’ve
never flown first class.”
“Well, only the best for my
Bunny.”
“Okay, then I guess I’ll get
dressed and go.”
*************
She was allowed in to see Raven
after waiting nearly ten minutes. “Come in dear.” Raven was laying naked on her
bed. *Is that all she does?* Faith wondered. She was a beautiful woman, for a vampire.
She was curvaceous, and supple in all the right places.
*Bad Faith.*
“Hey. Spike’s
better, if you care.”
“I know.”
“Right, whatever. We’re on our
way to England to get what you want, but you have to tell us what you want.”
“Here’s a list I have written.”
A small piece of paper flew from Raven’s hand toward Faith. Faith caught it.
“Okay then, I’ll be on my way.”
Faith turned to leave as quickly as she could.
“Aren’t you forgetting
something?”
“What?” Faith questioned, hoping
she could leave. She didn’t like being used, especially for sex.
“I saved his life. You owe me-”
“I don’t owe you anything.”
Faith interrupted. She found herself thrown against the wall and then she was
floating toward the bed. “PUT ME DOWN!”
Faith landed beside Raven on the
bed. “You WILL respect me!” Raven rolled on top of Faith. “I am more powerful
than you could ever hope to be. I *own* you. I gave you ten years,” Faith was
shaking as the vampiress licked her neck. “Don’t make me change my mind,
because I will take you, forever.” She whispered.
“I’m sorry.” Faith spit out.
Raven stood up and walked to a small table and poured herself a drink, what
looked like blood.
“Very well. You owe me a thank
you, and now an apology.”
“I’m sorry and thank you.”
“I risk my life every time I go
out. I risked my life to help you find him. Be grateful.”
“I am. It’s just been a weird
week.” For some reason, Faith didn’t think she should tell the vampiress about
the dreams.
“Go to England. Get those things
on the list. Read this book.” Raven took a book from the table and handed it to
Faith.
“What is it?”
“It’s about mind control,
specifically about mind over matter. You should work on exploring your power,
and your bond to both William and myself. Try connecting with us both, try
looking into other people. These are skills that will come with time, and
practice, but they will come.”
“Okay, is that it?”
“Yes. Safe trip.”
Faith ran out into the day,
happy to be rid of Raven for a time. She had to shop a little for the trip, she
needed snacks for the plane ride, and something else special to pass the time.
She grinned as she walked into her favorite store.
*************
“Where were you?”
“Shopping.” She said
nonchalantly. “We needed snack food for the trip.”
“You didn’t have to buy it, we
vampires take things.”
“You think I bought this stuff?”
She laughed. “I broke some shmuck’s neck and took his wallet. He had damn near
a thousand dollars cash. I love businessmen, thinking nothing bad will ever
happen to them.”
“Cor I love you, Bunny.”
“I know. When’s our flight?”
“Seven hours.”
“After sunset, perfect.”
“What does she want?”
“I have a list.” Faith unfolded
the piece of paper and read its contents. “The Book of Medlin, Themin, and the
Omega. She put here that the Omega is the talisman and Themin is the crystal
she wants. So how are we gonna get in anyway?”
“Angelus and I got in once
before, though that was before alarms and such.”
“Why did you go?”
“We stole the list of future
slayers and watchers and killed everyone on the list. The Council was up to
their eyeballs in dead slayers and watcher wannabe’s. It was bloody terrific.”
“Why did you do that?”
“Boredom.” Spike shrugged.
“There were some access tunnels, but they might be gone. We’ll just do some
research first and perhaps employ a few demons to help with the plan.”
“Great. I can’t wait.”
