Yggdrasil means 'Odin's Horse'. Yggdrasil is also known as the One Tree, or The World Tree. It is the backbone of all creation, and is a mighty ash tree that connects all nine worlds and is the supporter of all life. Three of its strongest roots reach into three different worlds, Asgard, Niflheim, and Midgard. In Nifleheim is where the serpent Nidhogg chews away at the root, and some people believe that when he finally chews his way through, that it shall bring around Ragnarok. Although others believe that Surt will set the tree on fire to signal the end of the earth. It is also said that after Ragnarok, Yggdrasil will let out the two humans it holds in its trunk, to begin life again on Midgard.
