Surt was the leader of the fire giants from Muspellheim, (land of fire to the south of Niflehiem, makes sense, he was a fire giant after all). Surt pretty much stands around all day weilding a giant flaming sword said to be brighter than the sun, which by the way he uses during Ragnarok to set the world on fire and destroy it, (he shoulda been more careful with the damn thing if you ask me, didn't his mother teach him not to play with fire?)
