Fenrir

A giant wolf, and eldest son of Loki and Angrboda. When Fenrir was just a pup, the gods kept him locked up inside a cage, due to a prophecy they heard that Fenrir and his children would destroy the world. As time passed the gods began to get a little worried about the size of Fenrir and knew no normal cage could contain him, so they went to the dwarves. The dwarves constructed a thin ribbon of chain that was incredibly strong and called it Gleipnir. To attach the chain to Fenrir the gods decided to try and trick him, and asked him if he could break it. Thinking that the little ribbon couldn't hold him, but suspecting a trick, he said they could chain him with it, if one of the gods placed his hand in his mouth. Tyr being the only one foolish enough to do it, stuck his hand in Fenrir's mouth as the others chained him. Though he tried as hard as he could, Fenrir could not break the chain and in his frustration and anger at being tricked, bit of Tyr's hand, (why he left his hand in there so long I have no idea, even gods can be pretty stupid at times it seems.) The gods then chained Fenrir to a rock a mile beneath the surface of the earth, and placed a sword between his jaws to prevent him from biting. At the beginning of Ragnarok, Fenrir would break his chain, and take revenge on the gods that tricked him, including devouring Odin. (Some people say Tyr killed him in revenge for his hand, and others say Vidar killed him after watching him devour his father Odin).
