This movie is very special to me because it was the first VCD I ever bought. What can I say about Gen X Cops? It's a big-budget, Jackie Chan-presented Hong Kong action movie starring (mostly) young actors (hence the gen x in the title). Did I mention that it kicks ass? Let me break it down: The HK police are having major trouble with a young punk criminal named Daniel (Daniel Wu), and Inspector Chang (Eric Tsang) is given an assignment to form an undercover group of Gen X Cops to infiltrate Daniel's world.

After auditioning numerous professional-looking cadets, Inspector Chang is just about ready to give up when three young punks march into the room and act like jerks, while mocking Inspector Tang (Wayne Lai). These guys are perfect for the job. Chang follows them, which leads to a funny skydiving scene. After convincing Match (Stephen Fung), Jack (Nicholas Tse), and Alien (Sam Lee! awesome!) to join his team, the trio stake-out Daniel's bar.

They meet up with Y2K (Grace Yip), Chang's best friend's daughter, who is a computer expert. At the bar Match meets up with an old flame, Haze (Jaymee Ong). What he doesn't know is that Haze is Daniel's girl now. The three get into a brawl with Daniel's gang and end up joining him on his way to kill Lok (Francis Ng). Jack befriends Lok and saves him from Daniel. A huge gunfight breaks out. Everything gets crazy from here so if you want to know what happens, rent it. Better yet, buy it. The DVD is spectacular in terms of audio/video.

There are many great scenes in Gen X Cops including: The beginning, when Akatora (Toru Nakayama) kills Daniel's brother, Dinosaur (Lam Ga Dung), and delivers a creepy good speach in broken english as Dinosaur lays dying, proceeding to fill Dinosaur with lead; the whole end scene in the convention center; and a great cameo by Jackie Chan. As always, Sam Lee is the standout performer in the movie, but everyone else is great too. Stephen Fung and Nicholas Tse are cast approprietly and Eric Tsang is quirky as usual. Grace Yip and Jaymee Ong are wayyy underused and Moses Chan as Inspector To is a real jerk, which is what they were going for. Some people really hate this movie, but I love it and ,if you like HK action films that you don't need to think about too much, you will too. I've heard some bad things about the sequel, Gen Y Cops, but I can't wait to see it!
