| SWITZERLAND SCHEME | ||||
| Thursday 24th October 2002 9:20pm I found some pretty cool things to do in Switzerland! Here is a basic rundown. The quotes are from the channel nine Aussie travel show, Getaway. "Zurich is home to Adagio the smallest restaurant in the world, accommodating just one couple!" Hrm... i wonder how far in advance you would have to book reservations! "In contrast to the general image of all things Swiss being conservative, it may come as a surprise that Zrich, the country's financial and business capital, is the place for the world's first McDonald's Hotel. " Only $200 aussie per night... but no big mac's with room service... Bugger eh? "The Inn Bike Trail is a cycling tour run by Eurotrek through the Swiss Alps. It is a tour you can do at your own pace without a guide. " Arent they the most beautiful two words in the english language? "Without a guide"!!! "The Glacier Express is the slowest express train journey in the world... but unforgettable. " Unforgettable cause it takes you half a day to get to the corner store???... "The Glacier Express departs daily, all year round. Swiss trains are known to be very punctual and will depart to the second." damn... i guess flirting with the bird that is selling the tickets for that extra few minutes is out then! "Make the amazingly scenic train journey to what is called "the top of Europe" Jungfraujoch, standing at 3571m" I really cant think of anything remotly witty to say to that apart from maybe 'dont look down!' some of that sounds pretty interesting!!! of course, i havent mentioned some other things that i am gonna try and do... like poison myself with alchohol, outfish lake geneva, and maybe get arrested... :) but that is for another time!!! Till next time! Doz. Tuesday 22nd. October 2002 7:00pm I talked to dad just then. Due to happenings earlier today, he wasnt on top of the world. He isnt real keen to part with $6000 just like that, so we talked about other options. Now, it looks like we have a way! I am going to do this trip on a real budget! Dad is gonna have a chat to some of his mates, and hopefully, I can get a job couriering something over to switzerland. I will get paid a bit, free travel there and back (I will have to go when needed, so I wont have a whole lot of control over my leaving date... will be sometime in late november though, But, it means I can stay till I want to go home (about the 22nd of december) So that will be a ripper! Free travel, a bit of money, and I will also have a briefcase of documents handcuffed (thats right!!!! handcuffed!!!) to my wrist! Oh yea, this is gonna be a bloody ripper of a trip!!! Ill keep everyone updated!!! Till next time! Doz. Tuesday 22nd. October 2002 3:30pm This is one of my crazy, spontanious, moronic things that I am doing because I can. I was bored one night, so I decided that I am going to go to switzerland in december. No idea why, how, or anything else really, just that I am going to go. Step 1. I have no money. This is bad. My first problem was that it costs bloody heaps just for the airfare. Well, after a bit of pondering, I came up with a solution. My birthday is november the 8th. So, I decided that I will ask my dad for $6000 loan for my birthday (which I will pay back within 6 months.... good old ADFA!) It is worth noting I spose, that I have not got the money yet exactly.... but I am fairly confidant (hopefull?) Step 2. Sooo.... what language do they speak over there?... My second hurdle was, I was unsure of a few things. Number 1, what language do they speak there? Solution 1. After about a minute looking on the internet, I found a handy little map. It would seem that they speak a little Italian in the southeast, also a bit of Romanian there somewhere, but majorly, German in the north, and French in the west. (Funny that... Germany being directly to the north, and France boardering on the west...) Problem number 2. What do they buy stuff with over there? Answer 2. After a little talking to a mate that I know over there, I found out that they do NOT use Euro's, rather, they exchange goods using Swiss Francs. I also found out that my mate, rather handily, speaks about 4 languages fluently. Step 3. What the hell am I going to do there? My third little delemma was what exactly am I going to do there? (Some people would ask why am I going, but the answer to that is there is no reason at all! The best way!) After yet a little more time cruising the internet, then getting fed up with it and hitting the atlas, I found a nice little place called Lake Geneva. (This is quite handy, cause my mate and her brother live in Geneva, and I have to drop by there and go out and get trashed with them!) So, after no thought at all, I have decided what I am going to do. I will catch a plane in to Zurich international airport (a big city in the middle of Switzerland) hopefully, I will be able to catch a train to Geneva the same day. If not, I will wander around until I find a decent hotel, or sidewalk, and stay the night there. Then, I am gonna head to Geneva, and meet up with the people I know there. After a few big nights, I am gonna grab my stuff, and walk around Lake Geneva. As far as I can work out, it is about 250km (150miles approx) around. I will walk about 15-20km (8-12miles) per day {well, that is the plan} and camp on the edge of the lake at night (I am taking my tent) Apparently there are some pretty decent castles etc. along the way, so I might even grab a camera or something. I will be bringing my fishing gear, so if I catch my dinner, that will save a bit of money!!! (hopefully they wont have strange fishing laws there... Then again... it WOULD be pretty decent getting arrested in another country... I guess....) Well, that is my brief outline of my crazy scheme. I will apdate when more stuff comes in!!! Till next time! Doz. Back to index |
