| Interview from Hello magazine - number 766 May 27 2003 Casualtys Christine Stephen-Daly, Adjoa Andoh and Kelly Harrison The close friends on and off screen trade their uniforms for designer chic. Christine Stephen-Daly, Kelly Harrison and Adjoa Andoh share an easy camaraderie as we meet in London Claridges hotel. Posing for our shot in flowery dresses and showgirl separates inspired by the film Chicago, there is a lot of banter about clothes and boyfriends with a few trade secrets on looking good thrown into the mix. We are very close, says Kelly, who plays trainee paramedic Nikki Marshall in the popular hospital drama. People come and go, and they live all over the place- Manchester, London, Cardiff-but when we come to Bristol for filming its like being part of a big family and we really depend on each other. We socialise go to the pub, go out for meals, and if someone is leaving we always throw a big party. Were very sociable. Australian-born Christine, who plays senior house manager Lara Stone, nods in agreement. I think its because we come from different parts of England-and the world. We have all been thrown together in Bristol so we are kind of like family. In fact, only yesterday I went shopping with Kelly and Zita (Sattar, who plays Anna Paul). Anjoas eyes light up at the mention of shopping. Im looking for a gorgeous, elegant black dress. Do you have any ideas? asks the actress who plays nurse Colette Griffiths as she slips into a shimmering baby-blue halterneck top studded with crystals. My style is quite eclectic, she explains. I was really into the hippie look in the 1970s; then I became a punk rocker with bright green hair and I used to go around in my dads trousers and big Hush Puppy shoes. Now I love a glamorous, well-cut pinstripe suit and long, lean jackets. I also have a weakness for proper cowboy boots. Im sure I was a cowgirl in another life! Anjoa, 34, confesses that she does share some personality traits with her character. Colette doesnt suffer fools and Im the same. But Im much more anarchic than her, please God! She says she has enjoyed playing Colette but that it is time to move on. Not, however, before her character faces a tough personal dilemma. I think viewers will be quite surprised by Colettes behaviour in this series because she is normally so sensible and organised, explains Anjoa. But thats the point. In the latest series she gets sick of being sensible and decides to have some fun. Someone else whos having a lot of fun is 22-year-old Kelly. I love Nikki, she says of the character who has returned after suffering a horrific and near-fatal stabbing at work. The Jack and Nikki saga is set to continue, she adds, referring to her on-screen on-off romance with jack the lad receptionist Jack Vincent. Jack proposes to her right in the middle of the hospital, in front of everybody. Nikki says Yes right away because she loves him and because he asked her- its every girls dream, isnt it? All I will say is that Nikki gets her big wedding day but it all goes horribly wrong, bless her. more >> |
