| Your celebrity Obviously, first of all, you need to decide which celebrity you are going to write to. Think of one that isn't that famous, more of an up-and-coming star that you could most likely get a reply from, that isn't going to be too busy to reply. Someone like a member of a local sports team is good. Aim at writing to someone who lives in the same country for your first letter. Once you've decided on a celebrity, check around different sites (seen in my autograph links)- for addresses where you can write to him/her. If you are writing to a sports personality, it is easy to find out the address of the stadium or arena where they play. I will also try and post addresses I have found on this site. For each letter I suggest you get one normal sized white envelope to send everything in, one large manilla envelope for the star to send you back your autograph and stamps for both envelopes. You may also wish to send something to be signed, but don't send anything valuable to you as it is possible you may not get it back. |

| How to write your letter Once you have everything ready, you need to know how to write your letter. First of all: ALWAYS BE POLITE- the celebrity is doing YOU a favour if you're asking for something- its just their squiggle, but remember, they get loads of these and don't have to reply to any of them. Always say please and thank them for reading your letter. Second: make sure they know you are a fan of theirs- mention a certain product of theirs you especially enjoyed, like your favourite film they have been in. They will only really want to reply to people who are actual fans of theirs. Why would they reply to someone who hasn't really heard of them, who just wants their autograph. They can see right through lies- they *will* be able to tell if you're not a proper fan. These celebrities are superhumans. lol *If* your handwriting is really bad, type it, but a handwritten letter, I find, is always more personal. What to include in your letter: Your address and date- set it out like a formal letter. Dear ______- I tend to put the celebrities full name, but you could put a title, eg: Cameron Diaz: Miss Diaz A bit about you- why you like the celebrity- your favourite product of theirs etc. An ending: Thank them for reading your letter, say there is a stamped, addressed envelope (see below), for their convenience and how much you would appreciate a signed photograph. Be nice, don't demand an autograph. End it: Yours Sincerely or something formal if the rest is formal. Then sign your name and print it underneath. What to put IN the envelope: your letter a Self-addressed-stamped-envelope (SASE) (this is another envelope, preferably a big one, with YOUR address on the front with a stamp- this is so the celebrity can pop their autograph in your envelope and send it straight back- saves them having to buy postage and write out an envelope to you, but is also the polite thing to do) a picture- if you want a specific one signed (but write 'please do not bend' on your SASE) If you are sending it abroad- put in a few IRC's (International Reply Coupons- you can purchase them from Post Offices for 50p each (I think) in the UK), this pays for postage back. Of course, if you are sending some IRCs- you don't need to put a stamp on the SASE What to put ON the envelope: You should, by now, have an address for your star. If you can't find one, you can also write to them care of (c/o) their agent. You can find their agent on International movie Database- just type in their name and click the 'agent' option if it's available. So, write the name of the star, with their address underneath. If you are writing to a star in *this* country, put a normal stamp on- but if it is being delivered to a different country, you need to get your package weighed at the Post Office, then pay that amount for postage. |
