| Most children don't enjoy a visit to the doctor's. I was no exception, when I was little - always screaming and crying whenever we came anywhere near the surgery. I was scared of syringes and vaccinations, but alas, some things just have to be done... One day though, in 1973, when I was three, the doctor had a new toy in her surgery. It was a Donald Duck vinyl doll with a squeaker in its belly. While I got my jab, I was clinging onto the doll, pressing it hard against me and it squeaked as if it felt the pain just as much as I did... It seemed to me as if the doll really suffered for me, and that made it so much easier for me to overcome my fear. From then on, I wasn't afraid of going to the doctor anymore. And when I did cry, then only because I wasn't allowed to take Donald home with me! | |||||||||
| From that day on, I loved Donald. He was my hero. And whenever my big brother had a new Donald Duck - comicbook, I would pretend to read it, too. I would sit still for an hour or longer, looking at the pictures, and I wouldn't become bored. Not ever. | |||||||||
